I also dream of MB without the lounge, and those that would be too bored for MB after, I probably wouldn't miss... :/

There's a lot wrong with this forum that getting rid of that thread, and razing the lounge to the ground so we could start over, would fix very quickly.

Does this also apply to obviously off-topic threads such as the various chain games and the spam thread?

EDIT: This is just a general thread response, not directed at the two ninjas above me.

I don't know. I think we could keep a games section and have like one off-topic area that could be more strictly moderated (maybe not even letting people create their own threads there, and just open a few threads for people to play in that could be easily monitored). Maybe?

Edit: I am not a ninja!! But I also am not exclusively replying to your post, just throwing out ideas. :)

I've never seen a chain thread go off topic before.

Disappointing to see who owns this.

So when he says it's time to do something and we need to think about the way things are in the Lounge, he doesn't need to spell out the consequences to me because I'm already well aware of them.

And he wasn't telling you how to moderate now. He was simply responding to a question. You asked him what he thought of the Lounge, and he gave you an honest opinion; that it was a fun yet chaotic place. Not once did he tell you to do anything. Hell, his response ended with "food for thought", not "take action now!"

You know, I used to work at a campground. If one day I had done the best possible work that I could have, and then asked my boss "Hey, could I be doing more?", how do you think he would have responded? Of course, he'd say "Yes, you should try to do more", because he's being paid to get as much work out of his employees as possible. But to try and act my boss's response was some sort of huge critique, or some sort of implication that i'm lazy, is looking way too far into things.

Be honest. It's becoming obvious that the owners don't even remotely care about us, or what we do, as long as we follow the basic rules and guidelines (which almost all of us have). If you want to crack down on the Lounge, then you as a mod have every right, but please don't act like you're being forced into it by the owners.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-25-2015 06:25 AM

If you don't want to make an effort then don't.

You've been here for a cup of coffee and now you're telling me how things are with a guy I've worked alongside for almost a decade?

There's been plenty of times when I've been asked to do stuff, gone to the mod forum to seek clarification only to be told it's not really an issue or we'll watch how things go for now or we'll act upon it. It makes no difference to me, that's my job here.

Like I said this is the first time the guy has ever suggested how we moderate anything, in 7 or 8 years. And like I said when he did that I took it seriously. He isn't my boss, he's the only contact we have with the owners.

You don't think that it's a very real possibility that they could pull the plug on this place?
It's already their least profitable forum, they would be totally justified in shutting it completely especially if people just gave up and place just became a shithole. So I apologise if you felt the first post was too strongly worded but I'm not going to apologise for the intention behind it.

Alright, I don't want to fan the flames here, but I want to make something clear. Urban, in your first post, you made it sound like you were being ordered to take recent actions, and said ominous things like this:

But when pressed for more details, you went on to post this:

I'm kind of confused. You made it sound like you were being ordered by the owners of the site to crack down on us, and yet the only involvement that the owners have in this whole situation is this:

Which is basically a "Yeah, sure, The Lounge can be kinda unruly. Feel free to do whatever you want." It wasn't a set of orders being thrown down by the angry owners, it was just Yac giving a sensible response when asked a question.

If i'm wrong about this whole thing, please correct me, but it seems like this whole thing is being blown way out of proportion. The owners are as distant as they've ever been, and clearly couldn't care any less about what goes on around here. The real reason for all of this mess is this:

So the whole reason that this started is that a few users were complaining. But guess what? People will always complain about something. That's just what happens when you give people freedom of speech; people speak their minds, and feelings get hurt. Rock and Roll isn't going to destroy our children, and The Lounge isn't going to destroy us. You can ask us to clean up our act, and we will try our best to do so, but unless you turn us into robots, things are just going to revert back to normal in a week or two. It doesn't matter how many threads you close, you'll never take the off-topic banter out of the Lounge, which exists purely for that purpose.

Excellent posts. Also I just read your visitor message and I thought it was very sweet, thanks :)

However, I wonder how many of the members here will bash you for saying the very same thing that I did.

For some reason my opinions are only taken seriously when someone else here shares the same opinion. *shrugs* I have realized that the rules of this forum are created by a select elite or clique. The reason why I get constantly bashed here is because I break "the clique rules" by having a damn backbone and expressing my own opinion instead of following the protocol of the clique and I am find with that because that is not who I am.

I am not a follower and I don't need to kiss peoples asses to be liked or to "fit it" in on the internet or in my personal life.

The funny thing about this thread is, people constantly bash me but they don't even care about how their own moderators (that they put on a pedestal) talk to them and address them. Its very clear based on the responses in this thread that they are other things that need to be change about this forum not just the "members"

No one should not have to stroke your eagle to get you to do something or to make you understand an error on your part. Facts are facts. It doesn't make you a bad person but no one is perfect. You should have the maturity and dignity to admit when you are wrong....period. This is ridiculous now.

1. The first post in this thread goes against everything that it means to be a moderator and it lacks integrity

2. It shouldn't have to take a bunch of people to make you admit to error as a moderator.

Again, these things do not make you a bad person but don't sit here and act like you walk on water, when you don't.

A lot of people here kiss Urbans ass to much which is why he has a difficult time admitting to any shortcomings because this site elevates him to god like proportions and it needs to stop.

Because it is clearly not helping him as a moderator.

You have failed the forum and you need to improve your role as a moderator and I say this constructively and with respect.

Urban Hat€monger ? 02-25-2015 06:46 AM

And yet you didn't address my last post to you once.

Or maybe it's because you're obnoxious as hell and you call people racist because they disagree with you.

"A large number of people dislike me, it must just be them"

You're trying to trash on Urban for not admitting his faults and then you go on to act like you are beyond criticism yourself and that everyone is entirely unwarranted in finding you annoying and insufferable.

Give it a rest already, your schtick isn't interesting anymore. Hit the road and stay gone this time.
