Reputation
Something I think would be cool for Music Banter would be reputation. Several forums I go to have it, and I think it's a great way to make the forums more fun, plus rep can be a good indicator whether someone is a good poster or not. You could use green for good rep, and red for bad rep.
I know some people think this will cause unnecessary drama, but come on. Are we really that immature that we get offended by a little red square on the internet? |

I suggested a "thnx' button feature here and it turned into a whole "why be a suck up" argument, you would think a harmless idea like that or yours would only benefit the site but the ppl here don't want it or else we would already have it. |
This has been brought up a few times before. I post regularly on another forum that has a 'thanks' system in place. Quite often what it does is encourage people to 'thanks whore' and make posts that are of no worth other than to get as many thanks as possible. I think something like this will have a negative effect here.
If you want a good indicator of whether a person is a good poster or not, read their posts and make your own mind up. |

By now im used to this place as it is so i don't push the idea anymore. |

There is something already in place for someone with a bad reputation, but it's not red indicator where every can see it ... it's the ignore list. And if someone has a very, very bad reputation there is a line through the name indicator. If you find someone with a bad reputation and they annoy you, then just use the tools the forum already has and put them on your ignore list. On the other had you might find someone with a bad reputation and he or she amuses you, you might not want to do that and read her or his stuff for lulz. I think that there is more personal freedom if you choose who your favorite members are than to have a forum full of member (that you might not agree with a majority of the time) deciding for you.

Fuck you OP, take your Star of David "good poster" fascist bull**** out of here. Red square for life bitch.

Music Banter is not the right place for it (based on the personalities here). Also, it will be like a popularity contest, people will be butthurt if they have a bad reputation score. If it's not broke, don't fix it.
|
Reputation shmeputation.
If you give a damn about what other people think of you... well, you are a bitch. You live and then you die. Life's too short to give even one one millionth of a **** about what other people think of you. **** um all. Have some ****ing fun. |
I've been on forums with rep systems and they just don't work.
They're a nice idea but they're completely incompatible with the way people in general work on the internet. For a wider scale application of why this doesn't work, just hang out on ANY subreddit for a week or so and keep an eye on who gets upvoted the most consistently. It's always just whoever posts the most and has the least personality of their own - whoever manages to echo the hivemind consistently. Why would you want to reward people like that? |

I just think that it could be fun if people don't abuse it. But yeah, I can see what you guys are saying. A lot of people would take it way too seriously and it wouldn't be fun anymore.

Reputation is stupid but being able to simply "like" a post is a good feature. There are no negatives and it's a good way to let someone know you enjoyed their post without making a pointless post of your own simply saying you liked it. There are so many stupid posts on MusicBanter of people just putting the laughing smiley () and nothing else, it's just spam and a like system would get rid of it.

And reporting posts needlessly isn't spam for us dear mods now, is it YD?
|
Needlessly? In what way is Paul's post there anything but spam/trolling? Please explain to me, oh almighty all-knowing Goofle.
I mean, if you're a mod shouldn't you enforce the rules? Quote:

It was a joke, move on.
I do like the "like" idea as we'll. I think it promotes an attitude whereby you make more of an effort in your posts. |
A joke?
You're either enforcing an established, objective standard or you're not. In this case you're not. There's a specific rule in place that you're ignoring that the post in question broke. In no way would I "needlessly" report something without checking the rules to make sure I'm reporting something that deserves moderation. |

Well gee all my posts are gone, I hope the mods here uphold that ruling consistently instead of deleting them whenever they feel like it. What a joke |
No, it's not. Some rules I feel a degree of discretion is required based on the context of the post. In instances where people just feel like being smart arses, but are ultimately harmless, I feel more inclined to look the other way. When someone does it to prove a point everyone always knows, then smugly turns around and expects everyone to being as impressed with their genius as they certainly are, I have reservations.

Actually I was just having a bit of fun. So, I'm guessing we reported Deej too?
|
DJ's post was pointless trolling too and I would have deleted his as well.
|
So, did you report it? No? OK so it's just the problem you have with me then, gotcha.
|
Well of course I'd rather you get in trouble with the mods than Deej, that doesn't change the fact that I think one word/gif posts are worthless and should be deleted.
Your post was far more egregious in the trolling factor, Deej's actually made me laugh. |
Quote:
Yes, that was made abundantly clear on the first post, Deej made a retort that didn't seem to bother you that much, then I did the same and you go Chernobyl on us. |
