I'm still waiting for your argument to apply to this website...

I am actually impressed that Freebase just accepted that the word is disparaging in other contexts, something Jans is either incapable of understanding, incapable of admitting, or just plain refusing to say because he's trolling.

I'm not arguing about this website, I'm arguing about the word as a whole.

Reading War & Peace would take less time.

Instead of saying "noob" if it's offensive, why not just say "newbie" or "new member"? Simple.

I'm not an idiot. I can see how it could be hurtful to actual idiots. I just don't care to entertain idiots here. (Your joke, I see it, those of you who are wondering why I'm replying)

I'm arguing about this website, which is what I have a responsibility to help run. In this context, extraneous data is of no concern to me. Therefore, I don't see a point arguing what you're arguing unless you make it clear that you're arguing in generalities and about the state of internet communities as a whole, which you really haven't done, and have only made this community think you are referring to them, which of course, is totally in my reason enough to tell you everything I've said thus far.

If it's not applicable, your argument is not applicable. Take it where it becomes so. Otherwise, fashion it so that it relates to something we actually care about.

I feel like I've made it clear that I'm arguing in generalities, but if it doesn't come off that way then I apologize. One thing that's a fact is that other people keep bringing this up, which is why this conversation is still going. Not to immaturely point fingers, but I didn't even start this either, I posted an aside about why I dislike the word and that was it. Others jumped on that statement, and I defended why I felt that way by stating that my internet "origins" were on communities where calling someone a noob was a huge insult. Jans refused to believe something like that could ever be the truth, and he continues to do so, and the cycle kept continuing. There's really nowhere else this simple, ridiculous argument could go because my side is literally just fact, and that doesn't even have anything to do with egos or the satisfaction of being proven right because almost everyone else on the internet knows my side is just basic knowledge lol.

Pretty sure I've never claimed that words can't have different connotations depending on context.
