Honestly, in regards to the topic, I think you're putting way too much importance on the word n00b. It's been used since the forum begun. Why did we need 20 pages to tell us what we already know? This is getting embarrassing.

I'd like to stop people on the forum from calling each other 'silly billy'

It has negative connotations and is also highly offensive to anyone who's name may be William, Will, Billy or Bill.

I'm putting too much importance on the word noob? I simply explained why I thought it was a silly word and didn't like it, then Goofle and Jans, who are obviously aficionados of the internet despite the fact that they've clearly never gone near a single gaming community were trying to tell me that no one finds the word derogatory. They're completely uninformed and tried to start an argument where they had no evidence whatsoever to support themselves, and people keep bringing it up. If anyone's dwelling on the topic it's certainly not me. I mean this is probably the dumbest argument I've ever seen and Jans keeps trying to argue for his side for some reason, it's almost comical.

Also I think bb should stop being said, as it is named after a gun. That equals violence.

Ha, uninformed, oh crap that's a good one.

I'll end my involvement in this debate by saying I personally have not come across anybody who has taken offense to being called a noob (the point I made originally) and that I am not stupid enough to assume that it has never been taken as an offense or that the word has never intended to be offensive.

^ This is a level of ignorance I very rarely get to experience, it's quite a spectacle. (directed at nilla)

Wonder how many Reddit upvotes I'll get if I post screenshots of people trying to deny that noob has ever been used as a derogatory term.

edit: thank you Goofle, I would never suggest you're stupid and hope I didn't come across as suggesting that about you

Why thank you. It's just my daily striving for glory business.

Exactly this.

You say you weren't aware ANYONE, (you weren't specific here with who, what, or what form, you said 'anyone' so these 20000 votes are 20000 times I've showed you evidence that yes, people DO believe the word noob is disparaging,) believed that, then you contradict yourself.

You're changing your argument, logical fallacy

/thread.
It's not a logical fallacy to say I wasn't aware of something. YorkeDaddy is literally the first person I've ever heard claim the word is a derogatory term. Now I know of two people who consider it a derogatory term, several who don't, and 20,000 people who were apparently amused by an entry on Urban Dictionary.

What a cute way of saying "I don't want to admit I'm wrong at any cost!!"

Unless we get a research paper from Harvard we lose here, WpnFire, it's hopeless.

The thousands of times I've seen someone being called a "stupid fucking noob" on League of Legends, Call of Duty, DOTA2, etc are all moot because Jans and his buddies, aka resident internet experts, think noob is a nice, endearing term in all contexts.

I do find the irony amusing I must admit, that on a thread titled as this is so many people are going at each other, to the end that I've had to put one member whom I thought was pretty cool on Ignore, that that member is basically baiting and pushing people who can ban him (three of them, not including Urban, who of course doesn't give a pair of fetid dingo's kidneys about the word noob) and that a whole ****storm has blown up over what are essentially unimportant or trivial matters.

Any noob (noob noob NOOB!) coming here to investigate the truth of the title will likely look at the last however many pages and say "Jeez! They're not even welcoming to each other! Can't get along! I'm out of here!"

Way to set an example, guys!

Seriously, why not just cut back on all the infighting and let the thread return to its original topic instead of basically debating semantics with the twisting of many pairs of knickers and the hurting of many butts?

Also, Urban I'm ashamed of you: you deliberately left out Will.I.Am from that list. I'm sure he'll be crushed. He has feelings too. And what about all the Wilberforces and Willards, Wilmots adn Willoughbys in the world? They don't count, do they not? Just brush 'em aside? You're worse than Hitler!
