I remember our beloved Conan used to welcome many members with genuine intent, not to advertise plug coldly. I will try to make new members welcome myself and if anyone else wants to join me please do.

I'd wager we've lost out on a number of great personalities because we don't put the effort into anything but squabbling or blowing air up one anothers' asses.
I don't agree with that at all. If people actually wanted to stay around here and discuss music they would regardless of the response to their intro thread. The majority of people that post intro threads just do it and don't post in any other area of the forum and I HIGHLY doubt it's because someone didn't show up to welcome them.

There have been people that post intro threads, get welcomed and only post responses in that intro thread and never post anywhere else.

Why force people to force themselves on others?

I say hi to the people whose intro grabs me. That doesn't mean I won't get to know them later on in their forum tenure, it just means that their intro didn't grab my attention.

Who cares if everyone welcomes them? That would seem a little disingenuous to me. It would seem faked. But the natural progression of people welcoming others, when they see the post, or feel like they want to welcome someone feels like a better fit to me.

Then just,

"Hi everyone my name is Bob"

"Hi Bob!" (REALLY?)

I don't think that's what happens when you post in welcome threads. Their experience here is often down to the response of their joining. If it's not welcoming enough they may leave the forum in annoyance. It doesn't take that much effort to say hello, see what music they like (isn't that the point?) and have a discussion? Personally I see no negative reasons not to welcome new members.

There's nothing wrong with a nice welcome message, but lets not be naive here - there's at least ten times the amount of spam profiles on the introductions page than there are genuine people who want to be part of the site.

I would hazard a guess that of those who genuinely wanted to part of the site, the vast majority participated in whatever way they chose to regardless of how many replies their initial introduction thread received.

Me either love. I just don't personally welcome all of them because I don't necessarily have **** to say to every new person that walks in. Not saying I won't get to know them, because I more then likely will. I am just shy, and that's not my style. Nothing wrong whoever wants to do it doing it. But thinking everyone should do it. Come on, now if someone isn't comfortable, how are we gonna ask them to do that, just to make someone else comfortable? That's my just my opinion though.

Im all for welcoming new members but it's not something i do often.

I do think it's important at least 1 person welcomes you and acknowledges your presence here cause it's hard to mingle with old members here if you're a noob.

It's sorta like starting in a new school not knowing anybody, all you need is 1 person to show you around and after that it's easier to mingle with the regulars.

Yip that's totally fine my love, you don't have to do everyone, just welcome people that you find interesting (who maybe put more effort into looking and posting around MB). You were so cute in your video, I think shyness is quite refreshing but aside from that I feel you are rather confident on MB. In person it would be another story (for all of us!).

The confidence comes once I know you. In irl, though I am just like I am on Mb for the most part. I just have to warm up to you that's all
With video though a lot of my vulnerability comes out, I think because I am talking to a screen that is not answering back lol, and instead of nervous I feel exposed.
