Suggestion = Poetry contest
 

How bout we make a poetry contest every month or 2 other months?

I think a poetry contest might give some incentive for the poets here in MB, but it doesn't have to be poetry exclusively, it could be a short story contest, just a contest where you show your creative writing and compete with other creative writers here.

The voting can be done via a poll and the winner doesn't need a reward other than knowing that he won, also every contest can have a different theme, to add some variety and a challenge to the writers.

Running this event would be very easy too, all we need is a mod to make the thread each month and handle the submissions, he would post the poems submitted to him and that's it. the rest is done by the community..

OH, also each submission should be kept in anonymity until a winner is chosen, this way we can avoid personal favoritism and just focus on the piece.

i apologise if there is already a contest like this here, but if not, how bout we make one?

I like the idea. Though I'd probably fail to produce anything worth reading.

That's how i made the OP on my amateur poetry thread,
i made it VERY CLEAR it's my amateur poetry so that ppl don't expect too much.

The good thing about a contest though, it's that ppl decide for you if you're good or not so there is no need to doubt yourself before it even starts, just do your best and hope you do good man. :)

We've done this before, called it the [Insert Month Here] Creative Writing Competition. Feel free to start up a sign up thread and I'm sure that at least a few people will join. Might even throw my hat in the ring as well :).

So, if i want to start a poetry contest i suggest the themes first and then i do a sign up thread?

im not opposed to doing it myself im just not sure how it works.

Poets were invited :). Just make whatever format you want, I'm sure people won't be too picky. I think voting on themes and whoever votes on the themes joins the competition would work. Or you can open the floor to non writers on the themes.

Im gonna try and do it but first im gonna ask members who have done it before and get some tips from them. (or hopefully do it as a collaboration with them)

I would like to register my interest, I have some excellent short stories involving Russian women and me weeping that I have been meaning to share.
