Why dont people just stop giving serious replies, you are just going to drag this on.

Like I mentioned earlier, the moderators do a fantastic job in approving the posts. They don't have to be as quick as they are but they do it so us as members feel good about the fact that our journals are getting updated frequently and that people will see them. I also find that they do a great job at being civil. For example; They don't push people away from the journal section just because they're new, everybody gets a chance and they also have no problem closing an old journal so a member can start a new one. So...they go out of their way to make us happy because they want us to feel good about our journals. As it's been mentioned, Trollheart made the journal section far more lively now than it used to be with his weekly update thread. Because of that, it pushes me to get at least one journal entry in my journal a week just so I can 1) express my creative thoughts in my journal, and 2) so my narcissistic attitude can be happy with what Trollheart has said about my journal. I also think new members have seen his update thread and have thought "man, i would love people to see my journal" and that motivates them to post more. If you think the mods aren't doing their job in terms of journals, you are obviously missing something.

Trollheart 08-16-2013 01:10 PM

Also, if you bother to check, many relatively new members have been encouraged enough to actually start journals. Here are a few: YorkeDaddy. 216. Blackdragon123. My own journal (the main one) is now going on into its third year, and to have over 100,000 views on that basis is certainly impressive I think. As for robots, I doubt any would be attracted there as I don't use any tags so wouldn't show up on searches.

And you can stick your medals. I never asked for one: they've probably all got sad or angry faces on them anyway! All I did was refute a claim you had made, which you now have somewhat grudgingly accepted but are trying to twist into something else, by claiming that the journals section is not as vibrant or visited as the main section. Well I never said it was, nor would expect it to be. But it's definitely seen by more than just a few people, and contrary to your (again, unsupported) assertion, people participating in journals, whether writing, reading or commenting in them, to me, have as much fun as people posting in threads. It's all about a sense of community, which you don't seem to get.

See, you can't just throw away one of your comments with a "big deal" attitude and expect it's forgotten about. It isn't. You were wrong, and you should admit that. I'd love to know how much of the journal section you have actually read, or have you, like most things here, just dismissed it as irrelevant because it doesn't fit into your agenda?

The thing about your attitude is, even were you to start threads now, if you were to go on there as you do here you'd find them either a ghost town or a raging firefight, because people here just don't like your attitude. And that's entirely down to you. You've made everyone feel this way and I have not one iota of sympathy for you.

As said already, don't waste your time with such explanations, they'll just fall on deaf ears or in this case blind eyes. Maybe if you were to write in Cantonese or Swahili, you might get through to Sopy.

I couldn't have put that better myself. Thanks Ki.

Robots index everything public, I believe.

How many times have you approved there a comment from someone with fewer than 30 posts? I see a few from one person - I didn't look back very far. Not did I look at other people's journals. Maybe they are visited as much as some music sections, but that would be a bad sign if true - journals don't and can't lead to the kind of sustained discussion that regular threads can.

Also, I didn't say anything about moderator performance re Journals. My point is that effort spent there doesn't do much for the site as a whole. The idea that people can fix this site by just posting more Journal entries or starting more threads is ridiculous. Unless Music Banter wishes to become the Live Journal of music musings, which is not my vision of the site and probably wouldn't succeed.

So your plan is to basically insult every person who works on their journal? Honestly, your argument is stale and all of this seems like you're taking the internet far too seriously. Your idea of a music forum is obviously hazy since you assume its all about success. The most important part of a music forum or forum in general is the user satisfaction. If you arent satisfied here, its a personal issue, not a mod issue.

I don't have a problem with people posting to their journals if it isn't distracting them from being 'productive' here. But the idea that, without other changes, members can increase their productivity to fix this site is silly. I haven't heard many reasoned objections to the changes I favor, while ironically I'm labeled unreasonable.

Bolded part number one: What are you talking about? I'm not a mod, I can't approve posts! Also, your English needs looking at: approved there a comment?

Bolded part number two: Yes they can. You say potato, I say tuber vegetable.

Bolded part number three: Neither did I. Where are you getting that from?

Bolded part number four: This site doesn't need fixing. A little tweaking maybe but then I've never been one to pass up a tweak... ;)

So because I only post in my journal due to not having much time on my hands to discuss things in other threads, I'm basically a non productive member? I'd like you to tell me why making this thread was more productive than me talking about music in my journal.

Hay-soos Christ! You actually said that? People posting in their journals is not being productive?? Oh that's it, I'm not talking to you anymore. This conversation just slipped from the surreal into the realms of insanity.

Thank you, and goodnight.

Ok this isn't getting anywhere.
Everyone has made their positions beyond the point of clear. In fact, I don't know why this is still open anyway. Since the OP's beef is with the mods, he can take it up with us in PM, as is our policy. We're not going to leave this open and let it serve as nothing more than a forum ideology war creating the kind of senseless discord that people are trying to get away from in the first place.

Closed.
