They do say, travel broadens the mind...

You're fortunate, of course.
To be fair, I'd guess travelling to foreign countries is a damn site easier for a European, than say an American?

Yeah I'd agree with that. We have Canada and South America, though many South American countries aren't the ideal place to be visiting right now.

Europe has older countries with richer histories, so from a cultural standpoint they have that going for them. Although nothing naturally in Europe can compare to seeing the tropical rainforests in Costa Rica.

As a European, I think we're very fortunate to have so many different cultures crammed into such a relatively small area.

Wouldn't know about that. I'm not disagreeing btw, never been to Costa Rica.
Wouldn't mind seeing a photo, Tuna?

Of course, I'll post a couple tonight. :)

Why not? They're no different now than they have been in the last century to visit.

Older!!! The continent has a rich pre-colonial history and a lot of it can still be seen and the customs still practiced. Spanish colonialism didn't start till the 16th century.

Cause a lot of the countries aren't the safest place to be at the moment, with cartel issues and stuff. You can go there if you like, you just have to acknowledge your taking more of a risk than many European countries.

It wasn't a slight, I'm only saying Europe's main draw is usually it's culture. South America is more exotic and conducive to safaris and stuff.

I'll grant you they're dangerous in general compared to Europe, but there hasn't been a recent upsurge in violence in these countries though. A couple though these days are extremely safe and on a par with a European country.

It is... Europeans can travel to a host of other countries in Europe because they're all so close in proximity. It would be very expensive for ME (let's say) to travel even to the UK or Ireland, never mind travelling all over mainland Europe. Whereas Europeans can just take trains and short airplane trips which are significantly cheap.

Not unless they change the job requirements.
