latest restructuring!

hey folks, i would like to announce that the very first thing we shall do here at musicbanter is restructure the staff positions. i have already let you guys know i was here on pay, and explained why i was here on pay, and it seems to have gone well.
so, i am officially announcing that the current moderators of this site will be made regular members and new paid moderators will be coming to replace them.
you have may already met chuck and dan. there are other members from the company that will be joining.

in total, we will have 5 mods who are here in different timezones, all of them are from the company, and all with direct communication to the site developers and admins. we are, in effect, administrators and moderators. we are sorry if this is not good news to some of you, and certainly the moderators we are demoting. it is in the best interest of the company that we take this route.

not only will we be able to bring your concerns and requests straight to the top, but we will be able to implement them as well. as far as the lower levels of moderation, we will simply update the rules to reflect what we expect from the community here. black and white moderation, we feel, is the best approach seeing as how we have so few moderator/admins at this time.

the rest of the team will greet you all, and within the next day or so, you should all see your new mod team!
here is to new beginnings!

midnight rain 04-03-2012 07:55 PM

wut .

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 07:57 PM

we hope you understand that we needed to keep the current moderators out of the loop until we had go ahead on this. now that we do, we felt it was a good time to share the good news!

no longer will the website be ignored. the administration is now taking keen focus on all of its sites! we just need our own men and women in place to be the intermediaries.

midnight rain 04-03-2012 07:57 PM

Why do I get the feeling that this administration wants to shed the current MB userbase entirely by alienating them with changes, so that they can pursue an entirely different site with new members?

And why do they not just make a new site for this reason?

RVCA 04-03-2012 07:58 PM

Removing the people who care most about the site and replacing them with faceless bureaucrats seems like a great way to increase its popularity.

TockTockTock 04-03-2012 07:58 PM

This is unbelievably ridiculous.

Rubato 04-03-2012 07:59 PM

This doesn't bode well.....

Janszoon 04-03-2012 07:59 PM

Er... come again?

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 07:59 PM

this website is already established. we bought this website established, and although it is more established than when we got it, we now have a solid plan to make it grow.

we have heard the cries for years, and all the requests. we are acting on them now, in the interest of you all, and all our sites!

TockTockTock 04-03-2012 08:00 PM

You can already plan on a substantial portion of the site quitting. I might just be apart of it.

The Fascinating Turnip 04-03-2012 08:00 PM

My arse.

GuitarBizarre 04-03-2012 08:01 PM

If nobody gets to it before me, I will be registering a new domain on may 14th and beginning work on implementing a forum and front-page. Anyone with experience, get in touch and lend a hand and maybe we can save what little the forum will have left after this goes down.

Message me for contact details, MSN, email, etc.

And no, I am absolutely not blowing smoke. This is happening and the only way it will stop happening is if I cannot find a way to finance the hosting. I doubt that will happen, as forums are very cheap to run.

someonecompletelyrandom 04-03-2012 08:03 PM

What the ****. Just like that? No need to inform the people who have volunteered their own time and effort to keep this place running. This is ****ing bull****. I can't even...

Freebase Dali 04-03-2012 08:03 PM

Yea, and since the mods are obviously going to be sacked, why the hell should we convince anyone to stay?
I don't know about you guys, but I've poured f*cking blood, sweat and tears into this place in my time here. I've said this before and I'll say it again, but we were ALWAYS well off as a community even when the admins didn't hear word one of what we said.
And now you guys want to come in and "restructure"?
Do you really think this is going to help the place?
What would help the place is granting our wishes so we, the real moderators of a community, can help that community and, in turn, make it grow.

I can't see how that wouldn't be a help....

Agreed, and I think it needs to be said that you guys did a great job modding the community as well as just being a part of it and this is a real low move to do to you guys after all the hard work. Wanted to say thanks, because it's pretty clear at this point the admins aren't saying it.

Thank you, and it genuinely brings tears to my eyes right now because I do know how much we are all a part of each other, regardless of our roles in the community, and how much we actually play a part in the cohesiveness of what we've cultivated here for so long.

And for it to be taken away in this manner, without even an afterthought, for some "business plan", really makes me sad to a point I don't think I can adequately express.
I just want you guys to know, that I have always, and will always, have your best interests at heart. Through the thick, and thin. No matter what happens.

TockTockTock 04-03-2012 08:09 PM

This makes no sense at all. Yac, how could you do this to MusicBanter? Do you realize what you guys HAVE here? You have a unique, loyal, and ridiculously intelligent community here and a top-notch moderating staff, and you're just going to throw it away?

... why?

Burning Down 04-03-2012 08:09 PM

What the **** is this? So the last year and a half that I've voluntarily dedicated to moderating this forum and trying to make it a better Internet community means nothing now? How about the time and effort put into the maintenance of these forums by mods who have been here for much longer?

The only solid in this plan is the bull****.

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 08:11 PM

first, yac had nothing to do with this. he is an employee as well.
and for the others, this is a good thing. you don't see it now, but that is because you don't know the plans we have in place. we really hope you all will at least give us the chance to show you that we are only here for the good of the forums!

I appreciate that man.

This whole thing is a bunch of bullshit. I've been a mod longer than almost anyone and I've never seen the owners take the slightest bit of interest in this place. Why now? Why not back when Tore was sending you all those awesome suggestions about how to improve the place?

No... no, we won't. I'll stick around to see how this foolish plan turns out, but don't count on my (or many others) support.

Rubato 04-03-2012 08:13 PM

The mods made this community what it is, you've effectively just taken the heart out of the forum and kept the box it came in.

ok, where are we migrating to?

LOLWUT? So you think that swiftly replacing the extremely dedicated current mods with you and your fellow company cronies is beneficial to the community at large? Wow.

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 08:15 PM

janszoon, things take time. the owners have gotten all those requests, repeatedly, and at the time, we were unable to financially make the changes requested. sure, some requests could have been simple, but when there are multiple sites with a similar goals, it takes time to hammer things out and figure out the direction of where things need to go.
we have now figured it out, and all the requests will have attention paid to them, and with the help of the new advertising, we will have money to pay for the new paid staff who will act on the behalf of those you have been requesting changes from for as long as you obviously have!
this is a great thing!

No it isn't. Stop telling us what we should think of your plan. We'll be the judge of whether its good or not, and right now, it aint.

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 08:18 PM

i am intentionally not infracting members for their outbursts because i know this is a hard thing to swallow. but please, if you would only give things a chance, you would see how this is a good thing. this is the only way we can fulfill all your demands, plus the similar demands of other sites we own.
would this have been any better going down if you did not dislike my music taste? i wonder.

Uh, no... this would still be going down because it is an idiotic plan... Grow up.

I don't give a crap about your music taste. I like pearl jam. What I don't like is you, your attitude, your plan, your company, or your insistence on telling us what we should be thinking of this. As I said, we will be the judge of that.

so you are saying that the members here actually don't care about all their requests being met, but simply care about whether they like who meets them?

Really now? So all of our requests are being met?

Alright, I request for you to keep our current moderators.

Also, what does demodding our current staff have anything to do with fulfilling our requests?

You can't possibly believe what you just typed. There's no way anyone could possibly believe that what you just said is anything but utterly missing the point.

None of your changes have been requested.

I still want to know what you hope to accomplish by making this site more family oriented.

Here is the MB audience: Musicbanter.com Site Info

As you can see, the vast majority of the people who stumble on the site (looking for whatever it is they're looking for) is the 18-35 age range.

jayshreddz 04-03-2012 08:25 PM

ok. well i will relay to the owners that you guys would rather your current moderators to remain in control. i do not think they will comply, but i do understand your concern. i'm not daft. i'm following orders.

we're very well aware that this change will be difficult at first. But the new staff would love to get to know everyone so you can see we don't all bite ;)

Fair enough... you're following orders. But if you can at least convince them to keep the current moderating staff, then that would be spectacular.
