When you look at the demographics of the people who contribute the most to these type of sites there's a significant amount of people around 20-ish. End of high school / start of university, a period in personal development where there are a lot of new elements being presented and a lot of opportunity to prove mental growth through discussion. There's an obvious appeal to a particular type of person. Then you get people like me, who've been there, done that, moved onto another site and started over again - and again. I'm not the only one who's made the claim of experiencing the cyclical nature of webforums first hand here either. It's not to say that it's a Twin Peaks style red room of forums once you get above the admin level. Just that I'm curious about the possibility of crossed paths from people who've chosen to keep moving onto the next iteration of this type of site after their first one faded. |
