Why would the owners go out of their way to appoint a mod? Why would anyone really even want to be a mod?

I agree that this is being blown out of proportion but that doesn't change the fact that jayshreddz doesn't deserve to be a mod. But really, **** it, who gives a damn.

Freebase Dali 03-28-2012 09:49 PM

Some of you guys still don't seem to understand the difference between volunteer mods that are here to keep the site maintained, and company-appointed employees that simply have the privileges of moderators in order to carry out their specific duties as dictated by the company.

It's two separate things. You don't see Yac policing the forums and handing out infractions... he has a specific appointed position from the company. Same as Jay. It's not a matter of deserving the position all of the rest of us mods get when we choose one of the community members for the position.
If some of you understood that, you may not feel as though some great injustice was done.

In other words, there's only one "board of directors" that volunteers and workers share.

Freebase Dali 03-28-2012 09:54 PM

I'm just saying it's a difference of purpose, and by nature, appointment.

Well yes, that's what I meant. All sharing the same boundaries with different purposes.

I have a tendency to simplify things other people say :/ it's a curse.

blastingas10 03-28-2012 10:16 PM

At first I thought he somehow was voted as a mod, but I figured theres no way that was possible.

Why would the owners of a website appointment a mod? What purpose is jay going to serve?

Exactly what I meant when I said that while several have earned their positions, others have still not even come close. Tell me I shouldn't be upset when I lose Lee, David, and Bulldog and get Vanilla, Conan, and Burning Down in return. Nothing personal against these members, as they have made countless beneficial contributions to the site and continue to do so, but it was a bit like having the heart of my forum ripped out. Still, members like David, Lee, Bulldog, Comus, Boobs, Sleepy, Fenix, Hookers, Satch, etc. made this place both vibrant in terms of musical discussion and interpersonal relations, all while maintaining the integrity of the technical side. The new wave just has a different style I suppose, and I wouldn't get too upset about little old me expressing a long held opinion.

I find it weird that you're including Bulldog in the "old guard" there. He's a great guy and I miss him as a mod, but in terms of who joined when, Conan and BD have been members here nearly as long as he has and Vanilla has been here for several years longer.

Bulldog, Molecules, Akira are the three that stick out among the new group. I'm just listing posters who I made a personal connection with because they stepped out on a limb and openly encouraged broadening my horizons musically. I'm not necessarily trying to define an "old guard" but I will not hesitate to say that when those posters were in their heyday there wasn't even a semblance of "cliques" or "social networking" as a driving force for the boards. Music was our purpose for being here, sharing it and communicating our love for devouring new tracks. I cannot honestly say that it is the same today given the huge amount of people who use MB as nothing more than a secondary Facebook/Twitter.

Anticipation send me a hip hop album that I wouldn't have heard that will make my loins crackle.

Please.

Haha, wow, I just read about as much as I could stand about the outrage over this kid.

I figured he was just another 14 year old who loves Pearl Jam (the username, the South Park avatar, the relentless appreciation of Eddie Vedder's horrendous singing). I've only read three or four posts and they all said the same thing. No big deal, it happens all the time.

To actual MB members: first of all, if you don't know how web sites like this earn money, do some research. It's common knowledge in the business world of IT that you can make a little bit of cash engineering this kind of site and you should know that every time you post, you earn a tiny bit of money for somebody.

I presume this guy is someone's son doing like a summer internship. I remember when my dad invited me to work at his firm when I was a kid. Of course I didn't do it (they performed background checks and stuff) but I surely would have taken the opportunity if all I had to do was sit in my room and talk about my crappy taste in music and ban IP addresses.

Anyway, welcome to MB son. Pay attention to its content and you might actually learn something about music before you have to go back to school.

We sort of did, actually. I like to think I helped inspire him to get his late pet rat Atticus.

As for Jay, I think he's here so that administration can be even more efficient at shooting down ideas and to keep our mods in line. ;)

Dr_Rez 03-29-2012 01:12 AM

Such a cute rat. I see the resemblance now.

Is it safe for rats to eat that much sugar?
I used to work in a food cart on a city street and my coworker always threw bits of chocolate chip cookies to the nearby squirrels. They loved it and always came back for more. It seemed to me like he was probably slowly poisoning them but I never bothered to do the research and call him on it.

Guybrush 03-29-2012 01:21 AM

Rats are quite tolerant when it comes to food, like we are, but eating the world's biggest muffin with glazing would probably not be healthy to a human so it's probably not exactly healthy to a rat. But, on the other hand, pet rats have very short lives in any case (~2 year average in Norway), much of which can be attributed to horrible breeding, so I doubt it would have much effect on an average sort of lifespan unless it was a regular thing. I believe this is a picture from Atticus' birthday celebration.

Rats can tolerate theobromine which is the stuff in choclate which is poisonous to some animals like dogs. Whether or not it's poisonous to squirrels, I've no idea, but it's possible. Adult animals typically can't properly digest milk either, but I guess that should just give them the runs. :p:

Dr_Rez 03-29-2012 01:39 AM

I have to ask tore what is the reason for your rat obsession? You have loved them for some time.

If you'd ever owned one, you would understand

"My" first rat was actually one my sister got when I was 6. It was a large buck of a male called Pelle and I used to take him everywhere. He got to 3 and a half years of age before he died so for a quite a while, I was that kid with that big fat rat on his shoulder - or sleeping in his T-shirt. He often used to run around my room when I slept and would sometimes wake me by crawling under my pillow (I slept with my head under the pillow) and lick my face. He also used to scratch me up pretty bad when he climbed around on me, but I sorta got used to it. :p:

I've loved them ever since and have had many pet rats. Sadly, my wife is allergic so although we've had 7, I think it's stopped until there's some very effective allergy medication out there.

As I'm a rat interested biologist, I've also got a good grasp on rat genetics and take a general interest in breeding, although it's not something I've done personally. I've written a couple of guides for norwegian breeders on basic rat genetics and tried to get a breeders database website going some time back. The guy who was going to develop the database stuff never got his thumb out of his ass so the whole thing fell apart.

Basically, they're the best pet you can get :) This is part a subjective statement, but also a bit objective. The amount of happiness you get back for the little time and effort generally required to keep them is very high and they're very intelligent little guys, or girls, full of personality who will quickly become your friends if you let them.

TockTockTock 03-29-2012 02:10 AM

... I think I want a rat.

Although, I'm sure Oliver, my cat, wouldn't be too thrilled about it.

I bet they've got a thread going in the mod cave called "April fool's joke" or something, where they planned the whole thing out.

Yeah, by the looks of how jay has been posting the whole time he's been here, i'm still not able to take this seriously. But there has been a lot happening because of it. A lot of drama, etc.

Yeah, I think the drama is part of the joke. The meltdown with Urban and stuff. I bet some time in the next two days it will escalate with some other scripted events until on the 1st we learn it wasn't real.

I mean, if not, then I'm a dick. But last year, another forum I frequent pulled off a pretty epic April fool's joke, so it's possible.

I feel like although Pedestrian and Burning Down were added pretty quickly into having joined, they're huge contributors.

Also, not many people mentioned Vanilla. She likes a lot of music and a lot of mainstream music is ignored here, I think she has a very distinct music taste as well as being open to commenting on other types of music and sharing it with everyone.

First of all, people are supposed to be welcoming our new mod or talking about HIM. Why are people attacking the mods we already have? if you didn't know them or like them when they were modded, I see absolutely no reason you should dislike them right now. They are all doing a great job.

Also NSW I love you. But I don't think anyone would say they didn't love you. I would punch them in the face if they did.

Engine 03-30-2012 12:32 AM

If it's a joke the biggest giveaway is when Urban said this (especially the last two sentences) in his 'Hey Yac ... Kiss My Ass' thread:

I apologize for making this personal, I know you're taking a lot of unfair flack over this and it was wrong of me to lash out at you. I know you're only doing your job and that you wouldn't have wanted all this upheaval on the forum.

That being said I'm going to swallow my pride and do my best to help Jayshreddz become a valued member of the forum.

In fact maybe I should change my name also I think the Hatemonger part brings out the wrong type of image that a mod should reflect.

I'm pretty sure Urban would actually just quit before saying such things.
