Where was the outrage when the new management took over and Yac was made our on-site admin? He hadn't posted at all, had no history with the community, etc. Although, he turned out to be a great admin and a likable guy, we don't really have the option as community members and community leaders to dictate what the standards are for upper management's choice of people they decide to send here.

While I certainly wish they had chosen someone with... a bit more tact... it's not for me to assert that they need to adhere to our standards as members of a community they're not even personally a part of. We just have to suck it up and hope this turns out for the best.

If he's here as a paid mod, the chances are they're not expecting him to be a "moderator" as part of the community in the same way as the volunteer staff are - there are many aspects of running a forum, and being a friendly neutral(ish) mediator is only one of them. If his position involves other stuff and hey, if he helps increase the communication between the volunteer mods on behalf of the community and the owners regarding changes that we would like to see in the site, then I welcome his appointment.

We should wait and see what he actually does before we decide that he isn't the right person for the job - he may well have very narrow-minded opinions about music (I haven't met the guy yet, so I wouldn't know), but that doesn't necessarily make him bad at whatever his particular job will be.

Hope it turns out for the best?

I don't know why y'all are so pessimistic about this, this is great news. This site has gotten so uppity and elitest it's unbearable. I think this will be a great for bringing in casual listeners, I personally can't wait for the new Pearl Jam subsection.

This does not seem to have been professionally handled. If someone was to come in here as a super mod by the power of the administration for whatever reason, then I would like to be informed that it was going to happen beforehand. Then I would've liked that person to be someone making an effort to be approachable, sociable, who would tell us why he/she is here and generally act with some kind of professionalism.

Instead, we get someone who, judging from his intro thread, seems like a bit of a tit. I could be wrong - I don't know Jay, but that's the impression I got. The whole thing just looks a bit emberassing to me.

Does this mean Administration takes an interest in the quality of the site .. or not?

Honestly, the stuff that got turned down by the administration when you were with us campaigning for it should be a clear indicator that this is maybe part of a larger operation and not really focused on us as a forum. Maybe they had very few people they could trust, and sent them out to all the different sites they own, as part of some larger reconnaissance thing.

Who knows, they could be in the process of cutting their losses or something. While I wouldn't freak out at the moment, I also wouldn't get my hopes up for anything spectacular...

For as long as I've been here, Yac has been the de-facto administrative mod. He didn't have a history with the community per se, but at least he wasn't blatantly trolling the boards. Yac predates current management, and in my eyes has never steered this site wrong. I've never once worried about mb turning into a bastion for ignorance and favoritism under his stewardship, like I do now.

If that's true, then the joke is being played on all of us, and it just doesn't seem like something the administration would do when they don't even care enough to put in basic anti-spam measures.

I suppose that's true. It just seems like a strange coincidence. I could easily be making some false assumptions and I don't want to sound rude whilst making them, but then again, it's still too early to tell.
