As for why Jay was selected in particular, I think that's a question for him to respond to.

Alright, that's cool then.

When jayshreddz reads through this, I think he ought to know just how great a privilege the owners have given him. There are people, wonderful contributors such as Canwll Corfe, Unknown Soldier, James and GuitarBizzare who've got thousands of posts, been here for years yet have never been modded.
I think jay ought to know that his promotion is a great honour for him, and a reflection of just how much his first week here has impressed them.

Conan once remarked that he was sure I'd be a mod if it weren't for me being so abrasive.

Frankly, I think that reason is a good one for why I'm not a mod. I have no real problems with that. In fact, if a modship were offered I'm not sure I'd go for it because it would mean toning that part of my personality down.

I don't get the feeling he's here to enjoy a privilege. It seems he's here for a specific reason, of which having moderation tools is a necessity. Whether he uses them to police the forum is up to him, but I don't think he came here to the forum thinking "oh man I really wanna mod here and feel important!" like I've seen here in the past.

Also, you should be aware that when the mod team picks a new mod, it's not dependent on how many posts someone has, nor how long they are here. If we collectively feel like the individual would make a good addition to the team, and there is evidence for it, then that is the reason by which we make our selection.

Which in this case is a process that didn't happen.

I think the idea of being impartial works both ways, treating everyone with equal cynicism works just as well as being nice to everyone, if not better. All the rage I see from you is usually righteous anger, which I think is a great quality. I don't understand some of it, but you'd certainly be on the list if I compiled it.
And I think the first conversation here we ever had was you accusing me of trolling :)

That's because the mod team did not pick jayshreddz. That happened above our level of authority.

I know, I'm not placing any blame on any of the mod team here, I just think that point is important to why this reaction is the way it is. Not only does jays personality conflict with a lot of people, (In fact, the majority of people) but also, he was given power that is totally inconsistent with the expectations of the community regards new moderators - mainly, that there is an expectation of someone having been around a reasonable (though variable) length of time and having formed some sort of mutually positive casual relationship with the members here.

Jayshreddz is the first mod I like on this site in quite some time, im happy for him.

Salami 03-27-2012 01:21 PM

To be honest, I agree that post count and join date count for nothing, but surely the dedication and commitment the above named posters is considerable? The quality of what they right is extremely high, and they treat this forum very seriously.
Obviously, GB and Canwll Corfe do not wish to moderate here, which is fair enough. But there are definitely plenty of similar cases, surely?

If the decision s actually serious, then this is absolutely true.
I for instance would have no objection to someone new-ish like Frownland or Goofle made mod because they are respectful, universally liked and very good members in every way.
