Name Change Archive

OK, I've noticed lately that a lot of people have been complaining about the name changes because they don't know who is who.
I don't want this to be a catalogue of every single name change, but just a way of telling who is who these days. Post below if your name has
changed and I'll update this post. I think it will be helpful for a lot of people to keep track of who their friends are.
Also, if you want to have a previous disabled account included, please mention it if you'd like that to be catalogued.
If for any reason you don't want your name catalogued, don't post here and I wont add it.

The names shall be listed ALPHABETICALLY under CURRENT NAME.

This is a good idea, Salami. I`d be interested in reading people`s explanations too. For instance, what made you demote yourself from "Mighty" ? Did you go through some crisis of self esteem, or did you just want to reduce it, the way The Silver Beatles ditched the "Silver" ?

Thanks, Lisnaholic - I'm hoping that people who do change their names find it helpful. I got rid of "Mighty" because everyone was calling me "Salami" anyway, and I was beginning to think it sounded a bit too daft. In this case I think everyone still knows who I am!

SATCHMO 03-11-2012 07:19 PM

Matious is now Sparky.

I have no earthly idea when this happened.

Sparky 03-11-2012 07:24 PM

feds were about to triangulate my position

Goofle 03-11-2012 07:43 PM

Stu is now Sneer (has been for a while)

I changed mine because I hated having my full name, even if it is a famous one. Goofle is my internet name outside the forum and I would cut off my own leg to be able to change my RYM and last.fm to it.

jackhammer 03-11-2012 08:19 PM

No offence but who the frig is/was steveeden888?

He is a poster that writes a novel as a post (basically tl;dr) about stuff that doesn't make any sense.

Salami 03-12-2012 01:25 PM

OK, can anyone tell me why some random chap called "These guys" was modded?

Useful idea. A way to do it that takes future changes in account is to list [Current Name] followed by a list of previous aliases? AKAs?

James 03-12-2012 01:52 PM

What the heck Conan, why do you do this to us?

This could be a good idea, because we have members like blankety blank who have changed their names several times in the last month.
However, if people come here to see what's happened in the last month, just seeing a list of names and aliases might be hard to trawl through.
I think there are two solutions to this - EITHER when someone has a name change I put the list of all their aliases before, such as:

Quote:

MAY 2016 -

Mighty Salami / Salami is now ........[new name]....
OR: there's no reason why I shouldn't go to the extra effort of compiling two lists, this one and a list like the kind Pedestrian suggested. That way, people can have their lists and their timeline.

Paedantic Basterd 03-12-2012 03:00 PM

Well, I don't think we have so many changes that there'd be a huge list to trawl through for anyone. F.ex.

Salami
Mighty Salami

These Guys
Conan

Pedestrian
Pedantic Bastard
Autotune the Unicorn
Princess Nefertiti Rainbow Crystal Light

You know what? I think you're right. And I could arrange them alphabetically by current name so that they can be more easily located. Should I update my OP?

If you don't, I'd be happy to. I think the flow would be easier to follow, and would easily account for future changes.

I'll try and keep up, you do far too much for this forum anyway!
However, for obvious reasons, could you please add anything between April and June due to my absence?

Ugh, I'm dreading it!

Anyway, I've updated it to the new idea. Please feel fee to change the current arrangement if it wasn't what you wanted!

Paedantic Basterd 03-12-2012 03:48 PM

Looks good, though I did remove my own list, as I've never actually been any of those people, as hilarious as that would be.

Rubato 03-12-2012 04:03 PM

To be fair, Conan technically didn't change his name.

Thanks! I'll try and make the lettering more pleasing to the eye as well, and hopefully add people like Sparky later too.

And Rubato - by that logic surely no one other than Yac changes anyone's name?

I mean his name is just an instruction that leads back to Conan.....nvrm...

someonecompletelyrandom 03-12-2012 09:27 PM

It's true. I'll do anything for a cheap laugh.

Howard the Duck 03-14-2012 06:03 AM

i changed my name mainly cos of its fascist connotations

and also its association with a Black Flag song

my new nick reflects my love for comics

Your new avatar is quite big.

Yes, a couple of minor ones. First, if you look at Conan's (or "These Guys") post up there, you'll see roughly 50% of it is nothing, just empty space under his signature as his enormous avatar forces his posts to take up more space on a page than necessary. It's not a big problem, but it can make you have to scroll a bit more in threads he participates in to find relevant text and, in my opinion, it doesn't look good to have pages fill up with nothing just to accommodate enormous avatars.

In other words, the 250 pixel height guideline is there for a reason.

The second is that I don't think any regular members would've gotten such a huge avatar had they requested it. That makes it a very visual reminder that mods (or at least Conan) enjoy different privileges from regular users. Some may not mind, but I'm against that sort of thing on principle. As this is just one case, it's pretty minor. Had all the mods visibly enjoyed various privileges not available to members, I believe it would've had a negative impact on the community - or at least on the regular users/mods relationship. So basically, if it's bad when everyone does it, then I think no one should do it.

I can't speak for other mods but they probably would have gotten it if they asked me. I actually wasn't aware of (or at least didn't remember) Freebase's comment about height until you pointed it out. The width of 175 is a specific number chosen for a reason, while it seems to me that height is more of a guideline. There's not really one specific numerical limit, but obviously no one wants people having avatars that are a million pixels in height.

Guybrush 03-14-2012 08:52 AM

Not that I like being a killjoy, but ..

I also think it would've been really annoying if everyone had avatars with nearly 500 pixels height so for that reason, I figure no one should. Following that moral principle is fair, simple to understand (one rule for everyone) and won't cause conflict/discontent.

That's all. I'm ready to stop riding Conan for his choice of avatar now ;)

If you look closely at one of the pictures directly above the middle of the compilation, the lad isn't facepalming, it looks as if he's in some sort of pub or other social setting and is actually crying.

Therefore the post is an

I don't mind changing it. I put it together on a whim and I was a bit careless about the length of the thing.

Freebase Dali 03-14-2012 04:53 PM

You don't have to apologize for not breaking any rules, Conan.
And since we haven't declared that there is absolutely no avatars longer than 250 pixels in height, but merely suggested they be kept to that arbitrary limit, and since we haven't denied any avatars exceeding 250 pixels in height to my knowledge, then I guess it's just a matter of whether it's annoying Tore or not.

Tore, you're an asshole. ;)

someonecompletelyrandom 03-14-2012 06:21 PM

Meh, it's beginning to annoy me as well. That's what really matters. :p:

Paedantic Basterd 03-14-2012 07:07 PM

The new avatar is a hundred times more awesome.

I admit I wouldn't have approved one over the limit, and I've had people resize them within a few pixels, but I'm a stickler and I thought we were more strict on this one since we'd never had a real discussion about it before.

I'll try not to be so mean now.

Freebase Dali 03-14-2012 07:10 PM

The reason we implemented a limit was specifically for the width discrepancies. The height was never an issue in the past, but we just used 250 as a decent-looking guideline. The only thing that was ever mandated was the width.

Out of interest, does anyone think there should be an option of me adding previous avatars in spoiler tags for each user as well as name changes?
