I always thought it was a reference to pins (buttons, badges) that refer to Mojo magazine such as these:

and that he was from the UK.

My avatar did used to be a Mojo pin badge. It is still my profile picture. I hadn't realised until now quite how misleading that may be in itself.

It is a Jeff Buckley reference. I just didn't put much thought into my username when I signed up and I think MojoPin was taken.
