Hell, I'd actually like to see the Lounge restricted to members with a certain post count. That would at least encourage newbies to stick around and talk about music. I think we'd get a lot less lounge-whores. |

You guys set it up, and I'll send MB my $20, ?. Lets stop talking and do it. I think a lot of members would be interested at the least. Especially long time members. I myself would contribute for improvement of the MB forum.

Ultimately, in regard to the whole "lounge whore" situation, I think everyone in general needs to just let it go. Let people post in the lounge 24/7 if they want. People who are here specifically for the purpose of posting about music will do so, regardless, and those that couldn't care less about posting in the music sections, won't. It's not harming anything. If anything, it's providing a nice segregation. Unless we had a rule that lounge posts aren't allowed until a particular amount of music posts are made, then no one is breaking any rules, and I see absolutely no reason why any of the consistent music-related posters have anything against people who are, for all intents and purposes, staying out of their way. I find it more hypocritical when regular music-related posters come into the lounge to post their complaints about people posting in the lounge, than lounge lizards occasionally going to the music section and expressing a musical opinion every now and then. I really think the entire mindset about loungers is utterly illogical. |

I think we should add a type of "Members Only" section with certain criteria that must be met in order to be a part of it. Like it only unlocks with 1,000 posts, a 1 year tenure, and moderator approval.

First, I'm a newbie. With that being said, I think a forum for members with a certain post total and mod approval is a good idea. I realize that I would not have access for a long time but, the way I see it is, if I stick around and earn access then that's great, but if I don't stick around or, if I'm an **s, why would you want me to have personal information?
I'm in banking (something I don't usually share on a forum) and I see cases of identity theft way too often. It can (and usually does) have major impact on a person's life. Now, how this would impact traffic on the MB site I do not know. Those of you that have been here awhile will certainly know better than me. Anyway, I had noticed that most of the responses to this thread were from long time members so I thought I would throw in the 2 cents of a newbie.

What's with all the post count fellatio going on around here?
Everybodies solution to everything around here is install a post count to it. You want to know how bad an idea it is to allow access to this thing via a post count as opposed to something such as moderator discretion i'll demonstrate it in one sentence.... Allowing access to this thing via having 1000 posts means that at current rate of posting someone like The Virgin will have access to this forum long before someone like Lisnaholic. And that as far as I'm concerned is a travesty.

I have to agree.
I always figured the post count only counted in the music section because this is a MUSIC forum. The lounge is fun and good but it isn't as big as a contribution. This actually encourages people to talk about music along with the usual mundane dicking around.

As said above, post count min just means spammers, trolls, and idiots spending more time churning out crap posts to get to the predetermined number.
