Il Duce, I'll PM you in these next few days. I have a password to a sword swallowing site which you may like. No dirty panties or 13 year olds or twinks though, so you might be disappointed but whatever.

Ok, after thinking about this secret forum a little more I don't really think it's a great idea. If you don't feel comfortable sharing personal stuff on the forum, you can just do it through PMs or some kind of messenger. I don't really see much use for the secret forum now that I think about it.

This. Musicbanter is not a creche. On top of that, if you start segregating users you rapidly compartmentalise the forum, and the last thing musicbanter needs during the current activity lull is administration rendering things a cliquey mess. It might well destroy the sites appeal to newbies.

AGREE. my favourite forum had one if these and I was ridiculously better. 9 times out if 10 it's regulars and such that can only acsess it. Which makes me feel More comfortable about posting my name and such.

.. How do you participate in a thread like members birthdays, the musicbanter cafè or members pictures on PMs?

It's posts and threads would not show up on the "new posts" feed or any other forum feed. It would basically be invisible until you reach that post count.

Reasoning

Why would we want such a forum?

It may be desirable to share personal information (ex. real name, occupation, pictures of you and your girlfriend) with the MB community. But currently, by doing so, you are also doing it with the rest of the world on a forum that has a relatively high google rating. That means it's generally speaking relatively easy for people to find the stuff you share through searches.

I see threads like members birthdays, members pics, the musicbanter cafè, recreational drug use (a thread which have made a few members ask to have their post history deleted) and so on and they would fit nicely in such a "secret" members forum, away from the prying eyes we never meant to share this stuff with anyways.

So .. whatcha think?
I like the idea, as I've had issues with personal info coming up on Google in the past.

I still maintain the belief that you're in no less danger exposing your personal details to regular members as you are to non-members. Especially around here...

I personally amnt concerned about the danger, but about general privacy and google annoyingness. I've had issues at my old job because of making the mistake of using the company's name in a post (and I also made the mistake of using it in my about me).

I also live more of a private life so my MB posts sometimes just afford people the chance to be nosy. But that's just me.

I think the only way something like this would be good is if the owner of the site goes the route of donations. Like on another board I go to, donate $17 for a one yesr membership, or half that for a 6 months. There if you donate you get a larger avatar, options to change your user name if you want to, unlimited storage for PM's, and they have a subscribers forum as well, that can only be used by people who subscribe for a 6 month or 1 year period.

Not that it is anything all that much, but it helps pay the bills for the sites owners.

Surprised all boards don't have something like this. this is one of the few that doesn't have a subscription system.
