I was thinking something like murmurs.com (which Burning Down is a member of). It has forums, but in addition to that, you also have a blog type frontpage (called Portal), a chat, members list, a gallery .. and maybe more features under the hood too.

I would like to see the portal or front page being used for album reviews and stuff. Write ups by our brightest!

great idea actually. I kept hearing you say the blog style type front page but I was curious what you wanted to put on it and that makes perfect sense.

I'm sure album reviews and so on would get noticed and commented on far more than they are at present when they're hidden in some strange forums people rarely visit. The only thing that makes musicbanter visible is that it has a higher google ranking and comes up in searches. A new site wouldn't have that, but we could build it and get there eventually.

yeah, I don't even think that is an issue right now.

Starting out, we don't have to worry about how much traffic the site gets. It is more like a personal project for how we feel that music banter should be like our own improved version with direct feedback to the people that would be in charge and more open to the suggestions of the members.

I wish I could change my vote from reluctant to leave to the first option above it!

I have a webspace and domain which I'm not using for anything much right now. Those who have the know how and would like a shot at creating some sort of site, send me a PM and I'll send you some login info It can be our sandbox where we can have several building projects at a time if we want. You'll be able to install stuff like wordpress or phpbb forums on your own, but I'll also be able to help if you need. If anyone wants to do this, we can create a thread where we can discuss what we're doing and so on.

^ I like this idea as it sounds like a best-of-both-worlds option, which I imagine most members would sign. Unfortunately, the mods don`t seem very optimistic about it being effectual and they are the ones to have some idea of the administrators mentality.

tore said that his loyalty was with the members here, and I`m sure the obverse is true for most members. My loyalty is to the mods, so I`d do what Dirty suggests, rather than start posting in two places :
