I love the idea, but I wouldn't completely abandon Music Banter. I would remain on both sites.

I agree with Dr. Suessicide, if this thing is going to work over the long run, you have to commit fully to creating something equally, if not more effective than MB. A lot of people aren't going to want to maintain memberships on multiple sites, and I don't blame them. I'm all for a better place to share and learn about new music and ideas, but I just don't see that happening unless you can get a large percentage of members on board.

Then there's the issue of new membership, how are you planning to get new blood into this place? Think about if MB had stopped popping up in google search a year ago, what would it's membership be like? So many people come and go in a years time around here that it make one core group unsustainable over an extended period of time.

I personally am not advocating that we keep up posting on two sites. I don't believe in that scenario myself. If I'm to be completely honest and outspoken about how I feel, I'd say we are the musicbanter community and administration provides us with a "home", a place where we meet and interact. But, they're not the ones using this site and spend hours and hours moderating and working on it, we are. Every day, we increase the worth of their property for nothing. Hence, we should be in a position where we get to ask and make demands too. If we are ignored time and time again then, we can move. My loyalty is not with administrator, it's with you guys.

This is exactly how I asked people not to vote - twice. If everyone vote negatively because they believe others will vote negatively, then you'd never figure out how people really feel about this. We already know, regardless of how people vote, that if it doesn't have the backing of the community, the idea is seriously flawed. So when voting, you should think of what you want regardless of how you think the others will vote/react.

The mods could always go on strike as a protest.
It won't be long before you get the attention of the Admin (especially if you inform them of your action after the fact) when they see the place knee deep in spam!

Heh... funny you should bring that up.
It was brought up in the mod forum, lively as a spark, and lived just as long. We're not out to harm this place in any way. We've had all the confirmation we need that the extent of our reach regarding administration of MB, is what we have now, and it will remain as such.
Personally, I'm fine with just being a moderator like I asked to be.
Doesn't mean I can't also participate in other things in other places.
I don't have to strike to achieve that.

Who can blame you?
It's a matter of how much you want this site to change for the better, without cutting your nose off to spite your face.
If the Admin won't listen and aren't interested in developing the potential of MB, then perhaps a new site to rival this one is the only answer.
It's just a pity they lack the ambition.
A new site would take a long time to develop, perhaps years and then there's no guarantee it'll last the course.
Big shame that this site is apparently doomed to mediocrity.

Haha That's my slip. I've only visited the thread through my subscribed threads feed since I made it so I didn't notice.

Moved!

tore, if you really wanted to start a new site, I think all it would take is for you and the other mods to get on board. I feel like if you guys all jumped ship and started something new, mostly everyone would follow. I mean, there'd be no mods here anymore if you guys all were of the same mindset of starting a new forum.
