As Manowar Week was so, um, successful, I was wondering if anyone was interested in making this a weekly thing? Someone can choose the artiste each week and see how many people will agree to write either a review, a few lines or even a joke about the albums?

Was thinking, in fairness, of making next week Beefheart Week!!! :yikes:
Any takers, other than the obvious?

Key 07-13-2015 11:23 AM

^how about Manowar month?

But out of the failed ashes of Manowar Week, rises the Phoenix of my new journal.

ahem... You're gonna need to do more than just regurgitate old reviews (well, a week old now) to make this stand out, my man. Mind you, the demo was interesting, but I predict you will lose interest in this within two weeks. Or less.

Prove me wrong!

Only one of those was a week old. The rest I did in a single day, one after the other, which was the same day I put the journal up. So suck it.

Frownland 07-13-2015 12:25 PM

Manowar week is over? I'll still write my review though, I'm a man of my sword.

Every week is Beefheart week but I guess I'm game for that too.

Trollheart 07-13-2015 02:48 PM

Okay, well if you want it to happen we need a few more people prepared to review, so get campaigning. I'd say a minimum of four, so that's two more, but obviously the more you can get the better as it gives a more interesting overall picture of how people react to the artiste. I see 13 albums as such (acc to Wiki) so ideally 13 people, but we'll never get that so I don't mind doing maybe 2 albums, I'm sure you'll do 2 and that then leaves, um... (multiply by four, carry the two, split the infinitive...) ninety-four albums! Oh no wait: recycled joke from the Update Thread. I'm running out of steam...

9 albums. So if you can get 9 more people, or 4 more prepared to do 2 each...

Frownland 07-13-2015 02:51 PM

You can review Beefheart for fun too. No restrictions.

TH I'd recommend reviewing Bluejeans and Moonbeams and Unconditionally Guaranteed because most Beefheart fans abhor them, which means there's a good chance you'll adore them.

I'll wait until other people come in and pick what's left since I have no problem doing any of his albums except for the two above.

Trollheart 07-13-2015 03:01 PM

OK, well maybe we can do the same thing as was done for Manowar week, ie a list of albums and let people choose what they want to do, match them up with that album or those albums and see what's left? Does 13 studio records sound right to you?

Those two are fine with me: no point in doing ones I have already listened to, since this is your way of sneaking more Beefheart on my plate, as I'm sure you're aware...

This was your idea, which strengthens my theory of you being a closet Beefheart fan.

He has 14 albums if we count Bongo Fury with Frank Zappa, which we will be.

I want Chula to give (Shiny Beast) Bat Chain Puller a shot if he's down.

grindy 07-13-2015 11:57 PM

I'd do Lick My Decals Off, Baby.

Trollheart 07-15-2015 09:19 AM

Beefheart Week is finally coming together! Beginning next Monday, July 20. A thread has now been created in the main music forum for your reviews and thoughts.

Anyone else contemplating or wishing to designate a week to their favourite artiste put your ideas here and see who is interested. If this takes off, then the next official week will begin July 27, as we don't want them crossing, and anyone wishing to contribute can start grabbing albums from July 20 once the list is set up.

Note: so far we've had Bowie Week, Manowar Week and soon Beefheart Week. Other than that, all are up for grabs.

Pet_Sounds 07-15-2015 10:46 AM

I just realized I have a baseball tournament that week, so I might not be able to write much. I'll try to get at least a mini-review up.

You can always write it this week, just don't post until Monday earliest.

Trollheart 07-19-2015 08:12 PM

Tomorrow Beefheart Week begins. As nobody has claimed the following week I'd like to grab it and suggest
Supertramp Week

Would anyone be down for that?

Pet_Sounds 07-19-2015 09:12 PM

You bet I would. I'll take Even in the Quietest Moments…

Oriphiel 07-20-2015 04:46 AM

I'm up for Supertramp Week. :yeah:

Trollheart 07-20-2015 08:45 AM

Cool. I reckon Anteater and Unknown Soldier would probably go for it too, as well as maybe TLP? That could be enough people. I'll draw up a list shortly.
Thanks guys.

Trollheart 07-20-2015 10:23 AM

SUPERTRAMP

Supertramp (1970) Oriphiel

Indelibly Stamped (1971)

Crime of the Century (1974) Unknown Soldier

Crisis? What Crisis? (1975) Pet_Sounds (tentative)

Even in the quietest moments (1977) Pet_Sounds

Breakfast in America (1979) Plankton

Famous Last Words (1982) Trollheart

Brother Where You Bound? (1985)

Free as a Bird (1987)

Some Things Never Change (1997)

Slow Motion (2002)

Oriphiel 07-20-2015 10:24 AM

I'll take their debut. :thumb:

Plankton 07-20-2015 10:58 AM

I've had a bit of a relationship with Supertramp ever since I was a kid and heard Take The Long Way Home, but I've never listened to the entire album. I'll take BIA if it's not already been grabbed.

Trollheart 07-20-2015 01:45 PM

Cool. You've both been added. :thumb:

Unknown Soldier 07-20-2015 03:33 PM

I'll take Crime of the Century.

Pet_Sounds 07-20-2015 09:08 PM

If nobody else gets involved, I can do Crisis as well.

I'll pencil you in. We still have most of the week so we'll see. I can take more of course if nobody else steps up but let's see how it goes.

Shouldn't The Batlord be doing an album here?

With that sloppy attitude you can do a meh album like Indelibly Stamped.

Or, god forbid, Slow Motion! It's very bit as bad as the title makes it seem, if not more so...

Trollheart 07-25-2015 05:34 AM

All right, we have five albums left to be taken, assuming Pet_Sounds is also taking Crisis? What Crisis? Is anyone else interested, or if not, is anyone up for reviewing a second album? Admittedly, most of the good ones are taken but still...

Trollheart 08-03-2015 10:34 AM

Although I've snagged next week as Iron Maiden Week, and will probably continue to do specials for as long as I can/there's interest, anyone can do this if they want. Just choose a week to be [insert artiste here] week, create a thread, list the albums and see who bites. Trust me, it's fun.

Trouble Salad presents the Gauntlet.

Not really a site event but it's a little personal one that I'm gathering an audience for, at least a handful to listen to the albums.

Synth vs synth and we vote for the winner. Then they advance to the next round (album) and face a mew challenger. When we have a winner, the last album will be a huge track for the synth's glory
