Members Look Here! MB Needs A New Moderator!

It's a long story, but let's keep it short. Since LoathsomePete and Urban are no longer on the mod team, we're looking for replacements. We think we have one sorted out .. but we're a little unsure of the other. So, we'd like to do another round with applications.

If you think you'd make a good mod and would like the job, then please make a little write-up and private message it to me. I will post your application for reviewing in the moderators forum where we will discuss applicants. In addition to writing how much you'd like to moderate the site, feel free to add a sentence or two on stuff like past experience with moderating, how you'd like to moderate the site or if you have any suggestions for improvements to the site that you feel strongly about. You know, don't be afraid to brag about yourself.

Send it to me within friday 7th of January and good luck! :)

GuitarBizarre 01-01-2011 05:23 PM

I actually applied last time, but things have gotten much busier for me since then. I'll be keeping a close eye on this to support potential good candidates however.

Freebase Dali 01-01-2011 05:29 PM

And I just want to add to this:

If you're thinking you won't get accepted because you think you're too new, or not "this" or "that", still apply if you really want the position and are able to be here regularly. Believe me, the more [serious] options there are, the better the final decisions will be.

khfreek 01-01-2011 09:57 PM

I'd like to apply.

Paedantic Basterd 01-01-2011 10:14 PM

Did these departures happen last week?

Burning Down 01-01-2011 10:48 PM

I'd like to apply - Tore, I'll send you a PM tomorrow or Monday :)

Guybrush 01-02-2011 03:53 AM

Brilliant Burning Down :)

I've recieved quite a few applications already! Instead of thanking you all individually, I'll just say here thanks to those who have sent me your write-ups and happy new year to you all :D

Keep'em coming!

Guybrush 01-03-2011 02:03 AM

Woke up today, sat down with the computer and another small pile of applications were in. You know who you are! Many thanks :D

s_k 01-03-2011 02:55 PM

Ghehe, careful what you wish for, soon-to-be-mods.
It's a tough job ;).

Not really.
Besides having a relaxed community, the key to our stress-free success is having plenty competent, well-meaning & selfless moderators backing each other up. Moderators who don't identify with that will weed themselves out naturally.

Modding MB is a walk in the park if you don't personalize it and view it as some kind of negative obligation.

duga 01-03-2011 04:01 PM

^

This.

I still pop in during my regular hours...only now if I notice spam or a troll I have the tools to take care of the problem. It's really no added stress at all. The others are on top of things so if I ever can't get online for an extended period of time I know they will take care of things and the site won't look like a bomb hit it upon my return.

s_k 01-03-2011 04:08 PM

I dunno, I guess I try to hard to make it as good as possible for everyone.
I must say that my forum community is much (even) closer than this one.
And when a member that has been around for some years decides to go completely mental (happened three times now), it's a tough job.

Freebase Dali 01-03-2011 04:16 PM

Happened here as well, but we have enough mods here to deal with things maturely and without taking it personally.

The toughest thing about this is WANTING to make things as good as possible and not having the administrative backup we need.

s_k 01-03-2011 06:15 PM

I guess I'm just not very good at taking things personal.
But then, my forum is mainly focused in the Netherlands so I actually do know most members in real life :)

James 01-04-2011 08:42 AM

I'm a bit gutted that two of my fav mods have stood down. Also I'm thinking of applying but I'll probably wimp out.

Freebase Dali 01-05-2011 11:36 AM

Come on, people.. more applications!

You should apply, James. You'd make a fine moderator :yeah:

So you're saying Boo Boo is more of a man than you are?

Point taken :O
I'll be sending within the hour!

right-track 01-05-2011 12:42 PM

Good luck James, you deserve a go.

jackhammer 01-05-2011 05:07 PM

There was a member who applied a couple of times when I was modding and I really hope they apply again because you should definitely be a mod. No names though unless they have their name in blue.

Guybrush 01-07-2011 05:00 AM

By my midnight tonight, which is now in exactly 11 hours, I won't accept anymore applications. At that time, I will set up a vote in the moderators forum and we'll probably have an announcement ready on sunday. Yac usually pops by on mondays, so then we should have our new mods modded early next week.

Aaaight?

s_k 01-07-2011 06:15 AM

Who's Yac?

He's our medium. He's the only one on the site able to pierce through the veil and directly contact the site administrator. As a result, he also has some administrative privileges.

s_k 01-07-2011 06:45 AM

Ah, typical. A forum with admins that don't post :D.

He posts sometimes.

Guybrush 01-07-2011 10:05 AM

Yac is not the administrator, though. Like I wrote, he's our medium :) The administrators generally don't post here, not even in our mods forum.

Dirty 01-07-2011 10:07 AM

So who are the admins? Like what do they do? Did they just create this forum and make $ off of it and that's it?

Are they Gods of MB?

Guybrush 01-07-2011 10:13 AM

They are the absent gods of MB, yes. They bought the site from the previous owner and haven't really done much with it as far as I can tell.

To clarify again, MusicBanter is owned by Advameg : Advameg, Inc.

Dirty 01-07-2011 10:17 AM

Through extensive research, I have reason to believe this man is our God

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4018/...38180cffdf.jpg

I googled and i think this guy owns the company that owns MB.

Paedantic Basterd 01-07-2011 10:33 AM

Hahaha, what an appropriate photograph.

Hehe, I doubt it. To me, that looks like Lech Kaczyński, the former Polish president who died in a plane crash in April last year. ;)

Dirty just got owned.

Who would've thought Google images could get you the image of someone with the same first name and different last name!?!?! Crazy!!!

Read over the caption you posted along with the image, and stop trolling ;)

Extensive research is also known as copy and pasting into Google. You didn't know that?

Thanks a lot Tore. We had a perfect chance to have a nice looking, well-groomed older gentleman be our leader and you just had to go and ruin it. Quick, erase your post so we can fool everyone else.

Guybrush 01-07-2011 11:15 AM

Actually, I did my own google search for "Lech Mazur" (the pres according to the Advameg site) and this guy came up.

http://www.tuneapiano.com/indeximages/lesh.jpg

Okay, so it may not be the pres, but he's a pianist and performs jazz, new age, pop and classical. Who could be more fitting, really?

Yeah, he's got something on the side when he's not playing the role of powerful internet tycoon.
