i don't really understand why you mods feel the need to ban contributing members. all of us can get out of line from time to time. this isn't fucking high school. it hurts the site. in my mind, the only behavior worth banning would be a physical threat.

I think it pretty much boils down to certain "contributing" members taking advantage of the fact that we actually don't like banning contributing members. But if we didn't draw a line in the sand somewhere, this place would be a war-zone.
What you probably don't realize is we give people EXCESSIVE opportunities to shape up and we find ourselves constantly warning certain people and getting absolutely nowhere. Most often, we allow these members to return to the site after a period of time, but if it becomes clear that they have no intention of following some very easy-to-understand, basic rules that actually serve a purpose for the greater good of the community, then it's their fault.

Contributing is important, yes... but when you're disrupting as much as you're contributing, and are always doing it, the solution is obvious. People around here have a tendency to get dragged into it and it affects everyone.

What did Boo Boo get banned for? I heard it was because he was being immature in an argument. So I can agree with Eric to a degree, we all get a bit immature and out of line now and again. (That said, I don't actually know what was said in Boo Boo's argument so he could've been well out of line and the ban could have been justified.)

I'm sure the mods don't want to ban existing contributing members, but if we all know they aren't going to ban us. Some would take liberties as Freebase said.

I haven't seen the conversation that resulted in the banning of CaptainCaveman, but I did read that he had multiple accounts, which are against the rule to have there.

In terms of why boo boo was banned it was because he had just come back from a 3 day ban and went right back into old habits and actually asked to be banned.

i never get to see the ban-worthy posts because they are quickly deleted. what could boo boo have said that was so inflammatory as to warrant a ban?

Word on the street is, Captain Caveman brought back Chilly Monk, his infamous alter-ego from the Chollie Mank saga at some point last night. And was subsequently banned for posting spam-like comments and posts in the shoutbox. I'm not sure if there was any posting on the boards involved. This is all strictly allegedly BTW. I have no factual evidence to back this up.

I do agree that both boo boo's 1-month band, and this CC ban, were seemingly much too harsh for the offenses committed. At least from my perspective. boo boo essentially got banned for having a bad day in the shoutbox, his ban was given out of haste IMO.
