I feel this is the most important point about the situation: Dirty made the person feel uncomfortable. He didn't have consent to treat her that way.

I saw Dirty make the verbal joke about the photoshopping in of an object into a person's mouth. If he and the person had been in agreement that this sexualization were humorous for both of them, then this situation would be similar to many on MB. Since there was no such established rapport, I agree Dirty's picture manipulation wasn't appropriate. (I still like Dirty, though; bannings don't mean a person is "bad.")

I've posted my naked David sculpture several times on MB. Since I'm still here, I conclude either people like fine art, or right-track doesn't mind the taunting! :p:

Yep yep. Images of people eating meat SHOULD be banned.

At last! MusicBanter has been converted. My work here is done.

^Spot on VEGAN.
Dirty's ban should serve as a reminder of where the line has been drawn.
There are many remarks around the boards of a sexual nature that are close to the bone, but for the most part these are general comments and not specifically aimed at an individual.
If Dirty assumed the member wouldn't mind and that his behaviour was acceptable to others then he was either mistaken, or just downright thick.

There's a bigger picture than the temp banning of a single member and that is the standard of behaviour expected for this forum. A forum made up of members of all ages. Some still very young.

What's important now is that Dirty and other members realise what those standards are.

I still can't believe his banning seems to be an issue with some people.
It's called moderating.

Hmmm... Yeah. Altough I must say (that's not criticism), I would handle it differently. I never ban anyone temporarily. I give them plenty of time and chances to improve themselves. Even if others are suffering, as long as I see 'the good' in someone, they have my support. But when it's over it's over. You can only get banned once and you'll never return after that.
I must say I have fought quite some wars with some members. One of them was lasting over two years. This guy was really a nice person but couldn't control himself on a forum. Tough choice, I liked him a lot in real life. He didn't seem to notice the difference between me on a forum and me in real life, because I'm not welcome there anymore. Ah well, peace returned to my forum. That's worth something.

Thats why they ask in the first place.

If bans seem haphazard and without reason, people are going to wonder if they're next.

Mojo 12-15-2010 08:53 AM

He was making a habit of making very crude, sexual comments and jokes around the forum. He may believe that people were taking things too seriously, you may believe that people were taking things too seriously but the fact is some people WERE offended or made to feel uncomfortable because of his behaviour and therefore he was asked to cool it down. I dont think thats too unreasonable, do you?

He was warned three or four times by three different mods at least to calm down and that his behaviour was unacceptable, including just a day before he was banned, and his response is to make yet another sexual remark, this time to a sixteen year old girl? He obviously feels it was made in good humour or something or that we are taking too seriously but given her age, the fact he does not know her well (or i assume) and the fact he was warned about this exact kind of thing numerous times already warrants his ban, in my opinion.

Every ban around here seems to result in a backlash now, but please keep in mind that the chances are you don't know the full story. Nobody is banned without reason. Plus he's only gone for a couple of weeks!

Violent & Funky 12-15-2010 08:58 AM

A COUPLE OF WEEKS!?!? NOOO!!!!!
