It's not harsh when you consider that guy has had more final warnings than the rest of all the members here put together.

One was on final warning, one was just back from a ban. both pushed their luck one too many times.

That's not the mods fault thats the members faults and they're not here because of it.

Again, it's not the specific event that causes these things. It's the culmination of a shit load of specific events that clearly demonstrate a user is not willing to play by the rules.
The thing people need to remember is the general MB population is not going to have the full story about what gets moderated most of the time, nor is it our job to have a sit-down with the members of this site to vote on how we should moderate it. So naturally, the result is going to be that the members see a punishment for which they only see part of the offense. As a result, you're going to have a skewed perspective of it.
While no one is asking you to not have your own opinion about it, we do ask that you'll take into account the fact that we make decisions based on a lot more information than most are privy to, individually. I would hope that this fact agrees between us all that the moderators are a little more qualified to make the judgments, based on evidence.

I understand that some members may have issue with some of these decisions because, as Eric said, anything that contributes to these bans is deleted and they never see it.

But when you consider that certain "contributing members" get warning after warning and treatment we wouldn't give a noob and don't take any notice of them then it gets to the point where we can't continue to stretch or be more lenient with the rules because the member in question has been here a long time rather than join up simply to break the rules and therefore be banned promptly.

Some long standing members here have frequently and consistently broken the rules and been warned that if they continue to behave the way they are behaving, a point will be reached where they have to suffer the same consequences as everyone else.

If they are a long standing member then they know the rules. If they continue to break them and force us to do something that we may not want to do, then they have no one but themselves to blame and speaking from a personal point of view here for a moment, wont be missed.

Cry me a river.

End of story.

agreed.

i've had to force myself to stay out of lounge and media discussions i know i could legitimately contribute to because of certain members. i don't lose sleep over it, this site is just a diversion to me, but it's still rather annoying. especially as so many others have said when it's because certain members are getting special treatment and endless warnings.

The mods are going to do things not everyone agrees with. I've seen what a forum with little to no moderation can look like, and it's not fun at all. I feel like I can actually have a decent discussion (most of the time) here because of the modding. Do what must be done, guys.

This place really isn't even that heavily moderated compared to baseball boards either...

Yeah dude, the mods are pretty lax.

But I kind of agree with eric in that banning people who have that many posts does inevitably hurt forum activity. I mean, this place isn't the most lively to begin with.

IE, Even though Hugo is frequently a total asshat, he keeps things interesting.

Just bloody use "Octane", if that's who you mean.

The moderation on this forum is quite excellent, there is a complete absence of trolls and spammers, and it seems like only the established members get away with anything. Frankly, Boo Boo's attitude and way of speaking were ban worthy imo, and it's not like it's permanent. Maybe when he returns, he'll learn to get a grip on those unsightly emotional whims.
