Suggest MusicBanter events, theme days and the like!
Heya!
To me, MusicBanter seems a little slow these days. It's nothing unusual, I guess .. Summer's coming and it's usually a bit slow around here then. Still! That doesn't mean we have to accept it. I thought perhaps it would be fun to have events or even theme days/weekends/weeks and the like around here to spice things up a bit. Just what they would be, I don't know, so I'd like to stimulate you guys' imaginations a bit. Basically, if you have an idea for how to do a specific MB event or a theme day or something, make a post and let us know! If we come up with some things, I can perhaps make a kind of MB internet browser calendar where people can see what happens, where (what thread) and when. List of suggestions : Weekly themes Ever played Heroes of Might and Magic and noticed when it's a new week, you get a message saying "the week of the rooster" or something similar? Every monday on musicbanter could be the start of a new theme week, for example week of the samba, goth rock week or big beat week. There may be a thread or two dedicated to the theme, perhaps a compilation and hopefully, members will feel inspired and listen to music in style with the current theme (perhaps even if it's not a genre or style they like) and write about it, f.ex in their journals. This suggestion now has it's own thread : http://www.musicbanter.com/announcem...tml#post873436 Diversity Day The title is of course a reference to The Office where diversity day was a day to celebrate different cultures. I would like to celebrate diversity, but specifically in music styles and genres. My idea was we could have perhaps a day or week or something when we have lots of different comps going that are genre/style specific, for example black metal, hip hop, country, prog, jazz, rock - lots of comps going on parallell at the same time. Participants can contribute to as many comps as they want. Obviously, I can't run every comp on my own, so I think each comp should have it's own thread made by one member who takes care of organizing it (putting it together and uploading it, basically). It doesn't have to be moderators - I and others can help sticky threads etc What do you guys think? If someone knows of a comp they'd like to run, write a post! Are there any other ideas or suggestions for events? Could be anything, like a bull**** day where you're allowed to lie about everything you post f.ex. Let's see some creative juices flowing!

I've thought about something along these lines myself, only I would much rather them be full albums instead. I am very OCD about my music library and hate having bands/artists with one song here and there. When I see someone else's ipod like that, I get really frustrated and can't look at it.
I suggest having themed weeks where everyone who is interested will immerse themselves in a certain genre even if they don't particularly like it. It sounds like a great way to get into styles of music that we maybe never gave a chance.

This really is a fantastic idea tore.
Im not quite sure how we would work it but i think declaring a week a specific genre themed week ie a jazz week would be a great experiment. Decare the jazz week, maybe get a mod to make a new announcement about it across the boards so everyone is made easily aware of it when they log in and then hope it catches on. We could start a couple of threads specifically for the occasion to try and generate enough participation as possible, maybe a compilation contributed by some of the more knowledgeable members in that genre or a thread for our favourite albums in that genre (with a good write up, no lists) or something. Im sure we could think of better threads than that. But as well as that, if it catches on, i would hope users would feel free to make threads or use their members journals to contribute something to the week if they have any good ideas. |

Uncapitalized song titles, song titles with added numbers, I can't bloody stand them either. |

the, an, a, of, or when people say like Mix instead of Remix or they'll put covered by instead of ____ cover i know all the rules about song capitalization and all that the only time these rules don't apply is when the title is mean to be like that example: Oberhofer - o0O0o0O0o |

First, I guess we should figure out what the weeks could be. There are many weeks in a year, so maybe I can make a list of a whole bunch of theme ideas and just randomize it's order. Then funk week will be followed by movie soundtracks week which is followed by samba week which is followed by bluegrass week .. We could mix more general themes with a few more narrow themes now and then. Hopefully, something like that would be stimulating on what goes on on the forums.
