I really don't understand the problem some seem to have with farewell and announcement of absence threads. If you're socialising with a group of friends or you're at a party, you generally don't spontaneously disappear without telling others. I don't see how it should be so different online. It certainly saves a lot of rumours/questions posed by regulars.

I think it's more attention whoring to criticize threads and call others attention whores. Wow. what rebels.
