Default MB improvements

Okay here is what I think this site needs to be better. Not that it is'nt awesome already.

Chat filters.

I think Musicbanter should have NO say so in the way we type our messages. We are our on people. What I'm getting at is there should be a setting for the chat filter which can be set to levels of intensity at the users need. Like low, medium, and high.

Site Skin.

I Think the site skin should be changed. This old blue and black gets old. Not to mention the banner with a CD and guitar. It urks me.

Groups.

How do you post in a group? Well you have to highlight the black area at the bottom of the screen to findthe button. What is the point in this? It stumps even the mods. Seems crazy to me.

Infractions.

This is the one that really gets me. I think that the mods need to be a little bit more fair. Just because I have the reputation of being a pointless poster does not mean you have to give me infractions for saying and doing the same thing as alot of the other members do. Example: Language. I also think that infractions/bans should be able to be appealed. It's only fair.

Shout Box.

The smilies never work for me. If they never work what is the reason they are there. They are just wasting space. It's pointless. Also, it would be pretty nice if we could open the shout box in a diffrent window.

Profiles.

There should be more room for me to write information about myself. also there should be more room in the "Music you listen to" area, because I don't listen to only 8 or 9 bands.

Avatars.

I think they should be sized up to 100x100 or 150x150. You can barely even see what some peoples are.

Posting Links.

I've seen that spammers come on here and post 20 posts really quick and then post a spammy thread with links in it. We should either make the minimum post count to post a link up to 50 (so if they try it would be obvious) or make a mod have to approve a member for link posting.

Signatures.

They are pretty good actually but posting a picture or something similar to that weather it be a normal pic or a .gif should be aloud.

Private Messages.

I'm lazy when it comes to deleting the messages on here. I think there should be a "Delete all messages from all folders" button. Also I think we should get 100 messages instead of posts.

Friend Requests.

I was puzzled on how to accept friends requests. I learned afetr about 10 mins of "getting pissed". I think that when they pop up under visitor messages in the user CP that there should be an "ACCEPT" button right there. Instead of having to wonder off the page for no reason.

More coming soon after I ponder.

All you have to say to that was dot? I'd say that was a pointless post.

I know but still, lately my posts have been on point and relevant more than they have ever been.

Repeat offenders get punished repeatedly and likely harsher. That said, you don't have much infractions to your profile at the moment, so you don't have to worry about it as it is. However, you should try and make a little effort with each post you write (and I do mean each) because while 1 or 2 pointless posts might not irritate mods much, 100 probably will.

As for the points you bring up, some of them I agree with and others, well .. You would really have to take it up with the developers of vbulletin. I'm not sure you understand what we actually have control over here. Let's just say it's not much.

There are some things that admin can do when/if he comes on and if he wants to and there are better ways of letting him know about these issues than putting them up in a thread like this.

Basically, it's like this. I've put up here your issues and who can do anything about it.
  • Chat filters - Administrator has to do this
  • Skins - Administrator
  • Posting to groups - Developers (/Administrator)
  • Infractions - Moderators
  • Shoutbox - Developers
  • Profiles - Developers
  • Avatars - Administrator

The handing out of infractions is the only complaint here we moderators have any direct control over.

As for the last one about searches, it seems to me you just haven't learned how to use the advanced search yet. Check it out.

I know that you guys have less authority than the Admin. Mods are put here to keep the forum under control not to edit the site. I know all of that. I was just posting this in the suggestions area to get the word out and see what you guys thought.

Yeah, the site actually used to be plain. We were so happy when we got that guitar banner. I still love it. Like tore said, Admin has to do it, and the site will be down for a bit while the changes occur. I dont really think its anything worth bringing up to them, when they feel a rev 2 is necessary they will make MB even sexier.

Although I might be wrong, I don't think the administrator is an active participant on the forums at the moment, so I figure he's less likely to want to fix things than the average MB regular. If we forward issues to him, it should have some weight and be short and to the point. Then we'll need patience, hope that he sees our side of things and hope he's willing to make the effort to change whatever it is we want him to change.

There's nothing wrong with forwarding stuff, but make sure the grounds are sound. For example, we could make a poll over who wants to abolish the swear filter. If 100 people vote and 90 of them want to get rid of it, that's a better argument than just saying you don't like it.
