well, dont trash it, thats just a sadistic thing to do; if you hate it so much just ignore it. and dont go on that forum. its not that big a deal. and hey, if you change it to a pissing ground of suburban kids. . .whatever it was. . . then either people who already post there will continue to post there, and some new people wont join MB cause they dont have a reason to do so. and it gets you nowhere other than being able to feel special that you made some innocent suburban white kids sad. and then the suicide rates would go up.

If they are going to join MB to just post a bunch of lyrics then they are not exactly valued members and your last sentence was unecessarily antagonistic.

you can always go to writingsongs.com songwriting forum :: Index

I always saw the songwriting section for members who have been here awhile so you have some idea about who they are. So maybe make it like members journal section, if that's not too much for mods . So it really becomes for the members, not random newbies who join to post mindless poems.

I know I'm not around enough anymore to have my opinion really carry any weight but: the reason I joined this forum to begin with was because of the songwriting forum. Ethan and I and a few others had a good thing going for awhile and we had posted, what I consider, some quality material. We had a good time critting each others' stuff and it allowed me to really discover what else this forum had to offer. And I used to be quite busy around here. Now, admittedly, the stuff on there now is a bit of a waste - but who knows when the next group of people will come around and actually get good use out of it? Plus, it doesn't cost to keep it up and it really isn't hurting anything. Just exercise some will power when scrolling past it, you know? Don't eat sh!t because it doesn't taste good, don't touch an oven when it's hot because you'll get burned - don't go into the songwriting forum because it sucks. Pretty simple.

When I first found MusicBanter, I was just starting to take seriously music and poetry. I spent hours some nights reading from the basics of poetry to some harder stuff, most of which I failed at. I also had a giant list of music I wanted to dive into.

The only thing I wanted out of the poetry forum was criticism, I just wanted to improve. I took my work seriously, and took comments like "It's so vague its meaningless" seriously as well- and those comments helped me to improve. I understand that there are poetry/songs that are repeatedly posted and never use criticism as a means of improvement. I also understand how that is a means of massive spam which moderators and annoyed posters (including myself) can only handle by flaming, which does nothing.

When I first started posting, Big3killedmydog gave me "feedback" on how nobody here who posts regularly wants to read poetry of someone they don't know. Maybe regular posters would be more open to this if the poetry/song forum wasn't a magnet for clueless pre-teens. I, being here for a month or so now, have come to value the opinion of a lot of people on these forums, and I'm entirely grateful to have a forum full of open-minded people like this, I've never felt more at home on the Internet before.

I love poetry, I think it's one the most effective and creative arts out there. I think it a necessity on a forum based around bunches of intellectual, artistic, and philosophical people who all value creative expression to nurture this art as well as others. Earlier I brought-up how I respect the opinions of MusicBanter, the reason that was relevant is because with all of these influential opinions floating around, if those who knew something about poetry just came to the forum, it could be a real catalyst for constructive criticism and personal advancements in creative expression.

How do we do this? I know there is a 50 post limit already on the poetry section, I think it should 300. I know I don't even have 300 posts yet, but I believe that will be a well enough number to both reduce, if not completely stop, spam as well as bringing the poetry/song forum to its actual full potential, even if there would be dramatically less posts.

I think the 300 post limit is a good idea actually.
