It opens in a new tab. Sweet. I never knew that.
But I have my options set so that any link I click (away from site) opens in a new tab, with focus set on that tab. This (middle click) rounds it out so that I can do that within the site. Usually I'd just right click and select it to open in a new tab. |

By the way, clicking the tab with the MMB closes it. CTRL&T opens a new tab, CTRL&SHIFT&T re-opens a closed tab. CTRL&F4 closes a tab. Alt&Click does a download dialogue. I always have mouse gestures installed for forward/back. clicking RMB with LMB pressed is forward, clicking LMB with RMB pressed is backwards. Makes you surf really quickly. I don't use it here as my trackball has forward/reverse buttons.
