Because 'What are you listening to' threads are an epidemic if not controlled.

there should be plently of general discussions of a specific genre in their appropriate sub-forums. Look for threads like "---- Education Thread" or something simular.

I'd love a mobile/iPhone version of the site. It would be great to go on here on my iPod and not have to wait for ages for each page to load.

I was thinking this the other day, I very much doubt that it'll happen though, it's only really social networking sites that create them. It would be awesome though.

it would drive up the traffic.
The Muse board has one, and I'd say at least a quarter of the members use it/have used it.

I don't think musicbanter is popular enough to get its own iphone app.

It's the most popular forum I've ever been on.
It doesn't need to be an app. Just a mobile version of the site.

it draws too many spammers who aren't interested in actually participating in the site and just want to use it like a nicer looking myspace / bandcamp profile.

you could start your own journal about your own tunes though. there are a few members who discuss their own aural offerings that way. there's also talk about starting a site based 'label' of sorts for online releases.
