Actually I'll take the wrap for that one considering I said I'd moderate the content in there. The problem I have is deciphering what's humorous enough to be kept (there needs to be some fun in there) and deciding what is just...intelligence level as opposed to spam. Like I don't want to discourage people of lesser intelligence from participating (and hopefully learning) by deleting their posts but I don't know what's deliberately stupid and unintentionally stupid. Does that make sense toretorden?

Yeah, I've also been a moderator where deleting spam posts was supposed to be one of my tasks, but I ended up doing it a lot less than I thought as well because often, it was so hard figuring out what should go and not.
And MB is a big community, everyday I see spammers coming in here and you manage to keep those at bay which I think is a very good job. Don't take my last post as a complaint. That's not what it was meant as! |
I hate to be someon else to bring it up, but the whole songwriting sub-forum could use a kick in the ass, there's way too much off-topic crap recently.

yeah their seems to be a self-perpetuating idea that this place is over run with spammers and that no discussion is going on because of the spam.
if it was that bad, most folks would have left. people spam here because the forums have heavy traffic, strong participation, and regulars. I'd say, if the spam bothers you that much, join a better moderated forum, but I'll leave you with a word of caution from Ben Franklin... "people willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both" |
As tough as it may be how about getting rid of the Indie and Alternative board.
It is too easy for those that not able to make a decision as a bands genre to cop out and just post it there. These 2 terms are no longer of any relevance in this day and age. |
If you don't mind every thread turning into a genre argument thats fine.
|
Amen.

Fair enough. You good people would have more knowledge of that than me but I guess I have no understanding of why anyone would put Country and Folk in an Indie and Alternative board.

Bringing up something out of the blue. Threads like, "Favorite *so and so* Song"? They generate responses... sometimes. Ok, fairly, they generate responses, sure. But they're two, three word responses, more than often just the title of the song. What is the use of these threads, really? There could be a debate, sure. But really who cares that this person thinks one song is better than the other and who cares if they argue? Especially if the band/singer is older and isn't producing anymore stuff (ie: Jimi Hendrix - given, an immense musician, but long gone in terms of he's not producing new songs anymore on account of, y'know, his death in 1970). Threads talking about, say, the Beatles' "LOVE" album is different, some may argue there's a lot to be said there on terms of opinion, debate, etc, and those "arguments" may actually be substantial in the music world (even if that "world" never leaves this forum and our little music world here). But my point is... the "Favorite song" threads are fairly pointless and don't really bring in a lot of useful conversation on the whole. Unless said threads can be expanded into a bigger discussion, I really don't see how they contribute to the forward "success" of the forum.
