As long as there's something notifying you to click on that link to bring you to your CP, where the actual notifications are, I think that would do. Did you have something else in mind regarding that?

The other forums that are both vBulletin forums that I frequent have something where it's not a pop up, but when it shows that you have a notification, you click on it, and it has a drop down menu that has a list of things "pending friend requests" / "new profile visitor messages" / etc. Than whatever the notification is referring to, it highlights that specific notification, and when you click on it, it brings you to whatever it is notifying. It keeps all the notifications in one place in case you get 2 or 3. I would get a picture of it, but I currently dont have any notifications on either forum, but when I do, I can get a screen cap of it so that this makes more sense.

The MusicBanter Ark

I'm not sure about the plausability/legality of this idea, but here goes.

The Music Banter Ark

Members could upload all of their music collections to a set of servers. All members would have access to everyone's music. With all relavent content at hand, music discussions would be much more efficient. The communal sharing of files would help everyone assimilate with one another. Every members' musical collection could be displayed on their profile page. If a member wanted to listen to a new artist, they would have a generous index of musicians to choose from, as well as reviews and commentary on each artist. Members could download and uploaod content at will. The possibilities are endless. I realize that this would require copious amonts of time and effort, but the end result would be stupendous. Every members' taste of music would be accounted for. MusicBanter could be a vault of music from each constituent of the site.

Oh! Reminds me.
50 pm's, what's up with that? Why only 50? It's plain text.
Can't this just be like... 1000 or so?

You mean like this?:

If that's what you mean, I'd be well in favour of that, it's simple, useful, and doesn't mean that you get annoying pop ups all the time :P

Yeah, that's the area I was talking about.

Janszoon 04-13-2011 06:08 AM

Another suggestion: When you copy and paste text from a post it also includes the words "Read more:" followed by the complete url of the post you copied from. This is annoying as hell and it didn't used be this way. It would be great if they could switch it back so we no longer get all this pointless crap when we copy and paste.

s_k 04-13-2011 06:13 AM

I said that before and people told me it was practical.
YES It is annoying as hell.

Yeah, that bothers me to no end. I hate constantly having to delete it from the post.

s_k 04-13-2011 06:50 AM

I don't see any use in it either. I've never thought 'oh it's convenient this time'.

Yeah, that's what I was referring to. It is very easy to use and keeps all notifications organized.

Paedantic Basterd 04-13-2011 10:16 AM

I'll support that suggestion as well.

Burning Down 04-13-2011 10:21 AM

I support it as well. This is the only forum I post on that doesn't have that feature.

Definitely this.

Freebase Dali 04-13-2011 02:19 PM

Hey s_k, did you ever find a list of bbcodes we should look at requesting?

s_k 04-13-2011 02:20 PM

Haha, haven't searched yet, sorry.
I have a meeting for my own forum this weekend so I'm really busy :).
I post here now and then when I take a break off from all the work I'm doing.

GuitarBizarre 04-15-2011 02:27 PM

Remove pointless filters from the swear filter! I can't link to tony****inson.com for example.

I *know* it is possible in the forum software to whitelist swears that form part of legitimate words, without uncensoring those words when used on their own.

If people want to post where they feel more comfortable posting then so be it.

It is a music forum not a chat room however. I personally would love people to contribute more to the music part of the forums.

Zer0 04-16-2011 08:49 AM

I'd like to put forward the idea of implementing a more efficient, easy to use and more visible search function for the forum. Basically something like a text box that is always in the top of the screen. Here's an excellent example that was added recently in the top-right of the screen on another forum I post on:

boards.ie

It's far simpler, easier to use and it works far better than the search function we currently have here.

dankrsta 04-16-2011 09:27 AM

Yeah, I've seen that on other forums. It's easy to spot, not that that's gonna guarantee that people will use it though, before opening new threads, for example. But, it could be a useful addition, especially if it can find words with less than four letters.

Zer0 04-16-2011 09:33 AM

The whole less than four letters thing is a bit of a problem. If you search for a band like Low or Air you're not going to get a result. Our current search function can be a bit of a pain sometimes but I think implementing a new search bar could make a bit of a difference.

Sure that would be ideal but let's be realistic.

this is what happens most of the time.

A person will post about a band that no one has heard of and their new thread will just disappear in the great abyss.

so they go to where the high activity is and that's in the lounge.

You statement is dead on.

Freebase Dali 04-17-2011 10:41 PM

I dunno... seems to me that if folks are primarily here to talk about music, they'll do it regardless. The assumption that these people would be so easily dissuaded from doing that, regardless of whether it was in a thread they started or not, speaks volumes about their true motive... especially if they relegated themselves to abandoning music sections to post about whether they pee in the shower or not, simply because their thread got lost in the sauce...

The lounge is used by both music posters, and non music posters...
The music sections are used mainly by music posters. It's as simple as that.

indienut 04-18-2011 12:55 AM

I found this forum in a Google search. Kinda curious about the history of the forum. It'd be nice if there's an "About Us" page or something that serves that purpose.

More info about the site could be added to the newb guide perhaps. Did you check it out?

The whole bolded section is very true but some people feel like it's not right that lounge lizards mainly only post in the lounge which doesn't matter imo. People will post where they want to and if they don't have anything constructive to add to a music post then it's good that they don't post in the music area.

Would be possible to receive a who-quoted-me type function, that notifies a user when their post has been quoted and responded to by another? I've seen this implemented in other forums, and have found it immensely useful.

Ah yes! I was trying to remember that function, as I'd seen it somewhere, but it got lost somewhere in my brain. Will add this, unless someone has some sort of valid objection.

A function like that would be very useful. Years ago I posted on a forum that had a feature like that. I loved it. No objections from me here.

dankrsta 04-20-2011 12:24 PM

Yeah that could really come in handy. I just hope people won't use quotations at all costs because of it, for example, when they respond to the post directly above, or when a post contains huge pictures or tones of videos. I hate it when people quote all that especially when it's directly above.

But, yeah, I'd love to have this option.

I doubt it would go that far, if people aren't seen abusing the quotes as is. People seem to be pretty good already about trimming strings of photos and such out of quotes, and I see no reason for that to change.

What I do with quotes is this: If it's just text, I'll usually just leave it alone. If it's just text but extremely long, I either single out the parts I want to respond to or I break it up and respond to each point by itself. If there's only like 1 video or photo, I might leave it alone, especially if it was posted a couple of pages back. Then finally, if it has a ton of vids or photos, I cut out the ones I'm not responding to. I also hate when people don't edit quotes.

s_k 04-20-2011 06:32 PM

Especially when they have a massive amount of pictures.
Some people just don't care about typography ;D.

djchameleon 04-21-2011 08:33 AM

Can we bring back the arcade? does any of the Mods know why it had to be closed down or w/e?

Sparky 04-21-2011 08:11 PM

It would be cool to change the color scheme for this site as well.

this blu....yuck

Phantom Limb 04-21-2011 09:02 PM

Yeah lets get some more vibrant colors!

Sparky 04-21-2011 09:35 PM
