I doubt it matters. In our hearts, he'll always be modding, closing threads and threatening to ban people. That's how I want to remember him: laughing at my music taste while directing a perfectly-crafted one liner...

MB has been inaccessible for me for 1-2 hours yesterday and some days before that.
Other sites worked fine. I also tried different browsers and computers.
Since other users seemed to have posted during that time, I assume it was only in my geographical location.
Is this a known problem?

When you tried to go to MB, did it say that your connection timed out? That seems to be the most common problem in terms of website inaccessibility. If that's the case, there are a bunch of guides on google that can help you to troubleshoot the problem.
