The whole thing about posting youtube videos without commentary started when MEMBERS began complaining they were spam. As the mods had no policy on this we opened it up for debate among the forum. Some mods were for it, some were against it just as some members were for it and some were against it. This is just you clutching at straws just for the sake of being anti-authority and to knock the moderating staff any chance you get, as usual. It seems whatever we do when it comes to your opinion it's always the wrong thing regardless of whether the members here asked for us to take action on something or if we did ourselves.

Personally, much as with statements about "I DON'T LIKE THIS BAND" with no other content, I think relying on a youtube video to articulate your thoughts, without making any effort to articulate them yourself, is simply lazy and destroys discussion.
At the end of the day, if I'm in a music discussion with you, I want to talk to you, not youtube. If you want to slam a band and voice your opinion, I don't mind, but give me the opportunity to disagree with you in a constructive way, by providing some semblance of a reason why you hold that opinion. If you want to discuss the content of a link, then tell me your reaction and we can see if I pull the same reading from the content. I think anything less than these things (None of which are complicated, and none of which are difficult), defeats the point of a discussion forum. I may be preachy about my likes and dislikes but I'll always try (or provide on request) my rationale, and engage in discussion about them. When someone doesn't do this it forms a closed dialogue, and honestly, it comes across as wanting to preach but never wanting to clarify, or listen to the alternative viewpoint. I'm not asking for much, really. [Youtube video] would become: [youtube video] I think this raises some good points about x "I hate [band]" would become: "I hate [band] because [reason]" and "[link]" would become: [Link] I saw this, it made me think [thing], what do you guys think?

I had no idea there was debate about YouTube only posts. I think whether it's appropriate depends on the thread. (For example, if someone asks people what their favorite holiday songs are, it's totally okay.)
Pictures for ridicule are something else. The Lounge seems mostly for goofing off, so allow it there (within reason), but please ban it elsewhere. One of the draws of this site is the potential for in-depth music discussion and juvenile provocations don't go well with that. I'm on another site whether the unofficial policy seems to be split just like that. |

Moderators worried about censorship sounds like Boy George's comment about a "vegetarian butcher." Anyway, who said anything about bans? The rules about "rude" posts, etc. are already written. Just enforce them, preferably unofficially and politely. I say getting the sarcastic pictures out of this thread would be a good start.
