There have been numerous instances where I've been on MB here and wanted to thumbs up a post but instead just kind of nodded to myself and clicked back to look at a different thread.

The down side, I guess, is that there are less filler posts where all that gets said is "I know, right?" but that's not really a downside. People will still post if they have something to add, legitimately...

I don't know if you know what I'm talking about or not, but I think it's not uncommon so you might...

I'd love to see that in effect. I think it would be very useful and I don't know of any downsides...
I post on another forum that has that feature, so I know exactly what you're talking about. That system is definitely less passive-aggressive than the reputation points, but it still creates problems. For example, people will post random crap and inside jokes of all sorts just to get a shitload of +1's. It's absolutely ridiculous.

A rep system will never happen here. And it has nothing to do with how good of an idea to us it is or not.

You can quote me on that.

Quoted.
And I'm glad that it won't ever happen here because I hate that reputation point bullshit.

I think who the hell cares? If it's a good post then say its a good post. Maybe even contribute yourself. The more effort people put into posts the better the forum is.

I strongly doubt Admin would ever install any kind of rep or +1 system. Trying to get it installed could mean a lot of work arguing your case to Yac with vague promises that the arguments are being passed on to admin and heard (lip service). Later, perhaps months down the line (admin forgets about you), when you dare to ask (again) for an opinion on your suggestion, you may hear that they'd never install such a thing.

They have a strict no-no policy when it comes to new BBCodes. Chances should be even slimmer for getting a new rep system.

I know you're all clamouring to tell me how awesome I am but you really don't need a rep system or anything like that to do it.

I'm not picky, just go to my profile & tell me there instead.

the rep system works okay on muzic forums

you can't repeatedly dish good or bad reps on the same people, thereby none of this "cliquey" stuff

yeah, the forum I used which had the reputation system allowed you to only pass out a certain amount of rep per day and it had to be spread about to a certain number of users before you could rep the same user again.

Nevertheless, it appears that reputation points isn't a popular concept amongst my fellow members.

It wouldn't matter if it was the greatest idea ever, posted by Jesus and backed by every philosopher and intellectual, it wouldn't happen.
