With all the talk of video games, could we get a gaming sub forum in the media section?

I was just about to go here and ask for that.

Akira 08-14-2009 03:43 PM

Maybe one for music as well

Urban Hat€monger ? 08-14-2009 03:48 PM

Video games could be included in the heading of the Media forum, but I don't think it needs a separate sub forum.

BTown 08-14-2009 03:55 PM

Come to think of it I don't think if we had a video games subforum it wouldn't be very active, maybe just a thread would be cool.

Bulldog 08-14-2009 03:56 PM

^ Yeah, if there was, I'm guessing it'd end up being about as active as the Soundtracks sub-forum that's already there is.

BTown 08-14-2009 04:02 PM

Permission to make an official video game thread in the media forum?

simplephysics 08-14-2009 04:04 PM

http://www.musicbanter.com/media/343...right-now.html basically the same thing.

how about a sub-forum in instrument talk for reviews on instruments?
that'd be cool.
i mean you can already post one if you want but i don't see any. so making a sub-forum would create more of those. and it would help people out.

anticipation 08-19-2009 06:01 AM

I'm interested in resurrecting the infamous emo/screamo sharing thread, and I'll tell you why. When that whole RIAA **** was going down most if not all sharing threads understandably disappeared and this changed the way we as a forum operate. However, about 99% of screamo/emo records are either self-released or independently released through non-RIAA affiliated distribution companies. Secondly, emo/screamo is a genre that is not only somewhat difficult to get into, but also has very few knowledgable fans on the interwebz. Due to our forum having a large collection of intelligent skramz fans, I think it would be benificial to us and mb as a whole to have a thread where interested posters can come to get sound advice and obscure music.

There isn't even a thread on it so I don't see what the point of starting a whole forum for them would be.

The sharing threads being removed had little to do with the whole RIAA thing and more to do with musicbanter's owners. At the time the current owners had just taken over and we asked what their position on filesharing was.

They said in no uncertain terms that it wasn't to be allowed, so all the sharing threads were deleted. I understand your point about it being relevantly underground, but where do you draw the line in what's allowed & what isn't? At what point of obscurity or fame do we allow or not allow links to be posted. It's too hazy & it's not really fair to people who listen to other genres of music.
That's why there's a blanket ban on all of it.

well that doesnt mean it can't be started. i mean maybe it can start of as a sticky in the talk instruments thing or whatever.

but the point of it is so that if theres someone who is like thinking about buying an instrument, but they dont know for sure, they can just come here and find a review on it. and i'm sure it would help a lot of people.

i saw it on another forum that i used to use, and it helped a lot of people. more people than anyone really expected.

but i guess it isnt in my power to make it happen, so im not going to argue it.

Darkest Hour 08-19-2009 11:16 PM

I think that if the Instrument Talk forum was being overwhelmed by posts about reviewing instruments a sub-forum would be a good idea but seeing as no one has showed any interest in the topic I don't think its necessary. .

True. But im sure if SOMEBODY goes over there and starts the topic, somebody will follow with it.
Maybe i should put a poll in this forum, asking what other people think before i go and do this?

Do what you want, I'm not one to be ordering you around.

If i were in your position I might just ask in the shoutbox.

yeah but i dont really think anyone would read the shoutbox. it doesnt seem like it's something everyone looks at.

Double X 08-25-2009 11:32 PM

Was there like 6 people banned due to a single thread?

sidewinder 08-26-2009 12:11 AM

Curious about all the bans, but I'm not reading all the BS to figure it out.

right-track 08-26-2009 12:23 AM

Someone list who got banned please...

Zarko 08-26-2009 12:27 AM

Well, people I didn't expect to see banned who are currently banned...

Crash_override
Fruitonica
Lateralus
The Unfan
NumberNineDream
Terrible lizard
gunnels
Anteater
Schizotypic
sleepy jack
Wayfarer
LoathsomePete
CAPTAIN CAVEMAN (?)

Probably some others... I dunno if they were justified or not, or they had to do with the feminism thread, will have to ask boo.

Antonio 08-26-2009 12:27 AM

isn't there some kind of members list or something to check that?

right-track 08-26-2009 12:28 AM

Thanks Zarko.
Try and get this mess cleaned up soon.

To add to this, Clamz, Comus and possibly bungalow.

NumberNineDream 08-26-2009 01:58 AM

all were banned because of the shoutbox ... check the shoutbox history, that should be easier.

The Unfan 08-26-2009 02:05 AM

Comus is still banned, and boobs is currently still a mod. Fix these?

Barnard17 08-26-2009 06:29 AM

I realise I've brought this up years in the past and been told that it's not this websites style but I somewhat believe recent events make it pertinent.

boo boo
thing is
boo boo
when I asked to be mod I only wanted to mod the prog section
boo boo
which I think I did a good job of overseeing
boo boo
but the whole forum was another story, I tried, but I can't control my temper like a mod should

So I'll say it again: localised mods?

Pros:
Less burn outs.
Reduced responsibility for new mods.
Closer community relations between the staff and people who post only on specific boards.
Something to fall back on if the workload of Global gets too much whilst still being able to contribute to the forum.
"Vetting" to see who would or wouldn't make a suitable Global instead of dumping them in the deep end.
Training to prepare people for becoming a Global so that they're used to responsibility before being dumped in the deep end.

Cons:
???

Anyway my piece is said :) As some of you may remember I'm a global on another website elsewhere (not a music one) so I'd like to think I speak from experience. Nowadays I'm not as adamant as I used to be on the matter because I recognise that MusicBanter has it's own unique hierarchy and structure, but it's still something I think it would be worth at least discussing and ruminating upon in your HQ.

anticipation 08-26-2009 06:43 AM

what i personally love about this whole blowing up situation is that all these members hold mods to some unattainable standard of neutrality and graciousness, which in turn limits the actual posting that mods do because they are afraid to tarnish this ideal. when mods do act like human beings everyone freaks out. just look at the way mods have posted after they've lost their modships, they seem more relaxed and more liable to speak their mind instead of playing peacemaker or babysitting idiots. the exception to this rule is probably brennan, who speaks his mind whenever he wants really.

when will members learn that mods should be able to vent just the same as anyone else becaue they are the same as everyone else, except we've elevated them to a higher status because we know that when shit goes down they'll keep their heads.

Akira 08-26-2009 09:25 AM

Because mods have to set the example so that when someone oversteps the mark they can deal with it without looking like hypocrites. Fortunately they do set the example with the exception of a couple, including Boo Boo.
