Re: Site Regulation

I have not been a member long here but I have been busy reading threads and contributing to a few. I've noticed several threads that have been closed, members whose accounts have been disabled and the "Who's Online" feature has been disabled since I joined. Why so much regulation?

It's a mystery, wrapped in an enigma.
That...and we're awkward.

The who's online thing is still there.

Pretty much all of the banned people you see are just people that have come here to spam and have never contributed anything here.

As for closed threads I don't really see any more or less being closed than any other forums. If they are deleted it's usually because they are duplicates of existing threads.

joderu95 05-02-2008 05:09 PM

It might still be there but it says it is off so it might as well be gone as far as I can tell.

If people are getting banned for spam, obscenities and generally being pains in our collective ass I can understand that.

I contribute on three other forums and all I can tell you is that there are more closed threads here than those on those other three. Maybe the overall volume here is just higher so there is bound to be more that get closed but it seems like a function that should hardly be used at all anyway. What's the point afterall? The comments are there but nobody can add to it. Ever.

Most of the locked threads I know of are threads made, when one already exists.
In which case it'll be locked with a redirect to the existing thread.

Of course if you want a music forum full of 'Slipknot rock' , 'Who's your favourite guitarist' and 'recommend me some music' threads we can stop closing them.

"Full of?" Who's saying that? No need to get rid of a thread because I don't like it or any one person doesn't like for that matter. It is the unpopular threads being left open that gives a forum any power and credibility as a medium of free speech not the ones where everyone agrees and plays nice.

The point is after just a few days here the regulation appears heavy-handed. I'm not saying it is, I'm just looking for some clarification.

Urban Hat€monger ? 05-02-2008 05:51 PM

No no

I'm talking about the quantity of them we get , which is why they are closed. Nothing about personal preference.

Those type of threads are already here and are open to post in if thats your sort of thing.

Perhaps you could show me some examples of the type of threads you think have been closed harshly and if I can I will tell you why they were closed.

Ok, fair enough. Thanks for the feedback.

Considering the amount of useless threads we have on these boards, I would say that we are fairly lax regarding moderation on here.
