Are the piracy police on the warpath because of the oink thing then?

sleepy jack 10-23-2007 03:25 PM

Thats what its looking like and it's better to be safe than sorry.

MoonlitSunshine 10-23-2007 03:41 PM

good move. I was considering going through the sharing thread and deleting all my old posts just in case

is there a way of cleaning up the backlog in that thread easily?

I might even go so far as to delete it if things look like they're getting worse, it's not exactly like much will be lost, except for post count.

Urban Hat€monger ? 10-23-2007 03:46 PM

All the sharing threads have been soft deleted , which means they can be bought back later on

I agree entirely. This sort of thing happens once in a while. Gives me a chance to catch up on the stuff on my HD at least!

pheurton 10-23-2007 05:12 PM

This is getting pathetic.

Same here, I keep getting distracted by new music, pushing older, and unlistened music to the side. This will be good for me.

I agree, I have so much stuff on my hard drive I haven't listened to as of recently. Also I guess this gives people more incentive to talk about the music they listen to instead of just check the sharing threads

I am so fed up with these idiots. I don't understand why it is even considered stealing to download music for free. I am not claiming ownership to the item if I download it. If I did then I would be one of the greatest musicians in the world.

TheBig3 10-28-2007 11:27 PM

They are doing it because I was claiming ownership. And since you brought it up, I am in fact the greatest musician in the world.

Dr_Rez 10-28-2007 11:45 PM

**** the RIAA.

lol someone's slow on the uptake. one of the main problems the RIAA has with people downloading is that they are taking the tracks...burning them to cds and reselling those burned cds. is that not stealing?

What are they stealing?

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 11-11-2007 03:35 PM

the music. stealing the ability to listen to it. seriously, it's pretty basic - if you download the songs from an album that is under a label that the RIAA is affiliated with (as far as I know, all the mainstream ones, and all their sub-labels), then you are taking those songs for free, instead of buying a CD to listen to. Therefore, they make no profit.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

steal /stil/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[steel] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation, verb, stole, sto·len, steal·ing, noun
–verb (used with object)
1. to take (the property of another or others) without permission or right, esp. secretly or by force: A pickpocket stole his watch.
2. to appropriate (ideas, credit, words, etc.) without right or acknowledgment.
3. to take, get, or win insidiously, surreptitiously, subtly, or by chance: He stole my girlfriend.
4. to move, bring, convey, or put secretly or quietly; smuggle (usually fol. by away, from, in, into, etc.): They stole the bicycle into the bedroom to surprise the child.
5. Baseball. (of a base runner) to gain (a base) without the help of a walk or batted ball, as by running to it during the delivery of a pitch.
6. Games. to gain (a point, advantage, etc.) by strategy, chance, or luck.
7. to gain or seize more than one's share of attention in, as by giving a superior performance: The comedian stole the show.
–verb (used without object)
8. to commit or practice theft.
9. to move, go, or come secretly, quietly, or unobserved: She stole out of the house at midnight.
10. to pass, happen, etc., imperceptibly, gently, or gradually: The years steal by.
11. Baseball. (of a base runner) to advance a base without the help of a walk or batted ball.
Alright pick a definition. Also how could I be stealing the music? They still have the music when I download it. I am not taking it from them. And again how am I stealing the ability to listen to it when I am not taking the ability to listen to it. The RIAA loses nothing whether I download or not.

So what is it I am taking again?

You fail at understanding logic. Don't try and twist it around, it will get you nowhere. Don't get me wrong, I download music, but when I am able to buy an album, I do so. Most of these artists have to live off of their album sales, so yeah.

I think you fail at understanding logic and that is why you didn't even answer my question.

Also artists make more money off of merchandise and concerts then they do off of studio albums. It is the record label that makes the money off of the albums.

The Dave 11-11-2007 08:30 PM

^Being fully aware of that, they still do make money off of the record, it's their profession, it's their job, support them if you love their tunes so much.

I will support their music by listening to it and then when I make my own band, taking influences from it and building on it while still giving them credit. If I don't use them in my sound then oh well. What should be remembered is that music is an art not a business.

And I do support bands when I like their cause enough. I paid for Radiohead's album because they finally got it right.

the music is an art not a business is so lame......you go try to pay your bills with your art.......

I may be mistaken, but aren't there other ways to gain money in this world?

There are, but that is the profession that they chose and you should honor it.

I am not honoring that fact that I have to pay to listen to something. I mean if I wanted to sell the album myself or alter it, then I would buy it, but I am not paying to listen to an album. I will pay for the merchandise instead because that is something I should actually pay for.

The Dave 11-13-2007 09:43 PM

Whatever, it's clear that your stubbornness is causing this argument to get nowhere. It's their music, they worked hard to make it, and if you liked it you purchase it because they have to live as well. I'll leave it at that, but I'm not continuing this because you're just too full of your self for me to deal with.

It has nothing to do my stubbornness. It has to do with the idea that downloading music is not stealing, and it is not robbing the artist of money.

swim 11-14-2007 07:10 PM

This is like one of the few times I've actually agreed with you. If you don't want people to hear your music don't even bother to make it.

That's not the issue though. The main issue is people downloading and burning cds and selling the albums for five bucks a pop.
