so yeah, imo, seperate forum=bad idea
It depends , we've not quite decided what shape this forum is going to take or even if we are going to have one. But I can tell you one thing , talking shit about other members will not be a factor. It's not allowed now and it won't be allowed if we have a new forum. If people want to continually abuse it we'll just cut off their access to this new forum.

Also I don't think not posting in the rest of the forum will be an issue either , we don't allow duplicate threads so they'll have to use the existing forum if they want to talk about the things they already talk about.

The way I see it it'll just be a place where members who have contributed to this place over a period of time and who have built up friendships with other members can talk freely & openly without being bothered by spammers & new people signing up asking stupid questions all the time.

I've seen it work on some forums and i've seen it not work on other forums. We won't know how it'll work out here until it's tried, and I think all of the mods here care enough to make it a success instead of a failure by stamping hard on things that'll try to turn this forum into a negative thing.

We USUALLY try and keep this forum neat and tidy but the odd thing does slip through our net.

HI!
As I've Not Been Around Here That Long, And The Fact That I Don't Post In Every Thread, Or Know That Many People; I'm Not Sure What Bracket That Would Put Me.
I Enjoy Posting On Here, But Would This Type Of New Approach Effectively Make Me Classed As A New Person?

It's not about bracketing people. You can have as much involvement with the site as you want. All this will be is an incentive to get people to stick around for longer. It isn't about labelling people as noobs & banning them from getting involved. In fact I think the whole thing is being blown out of proportion.

All it means is that people who have been here a long time and have contributed get to post in 32 forums as opposed to the 31 forums everybody else is allowed posts in. I hardly think thats much of a big deal.

Default Position of Introduction Section and Rules

Hello Moderators,
First, thank you for the work you do maintaining the MB site.

One suggestion I have so far would be to move the "INTRODUCTION" section to the top of the MB page, along with rules, so that people see this first before going down to further sections (the music section, the artists' section, the community center).

When I joined MB I completely missed the introduction section at first because I never looked lower than the artists' section! While this may simply be due to my not being very observant, I don't think I'm the only one who does this. I've also noticed a fair number of other people who post for a while and then introduce themselves, perhaps because they don't see the intro section at first.

Since it often seems to be an issue that people do not know about putting links in their posts (until some number of posts), perhaps the rules section for the MB community could be made closer to the top or clearer somehow? Also, I get the feeling that many newcomers may not realize that they can, if they wish, post contact information (such as a link) in their contact information in their profiles. If they knew about this option, there would be less need for people to post links in the threads. I actually like links in posts because I like it that people are trying to share efficiently what is important to them, but I understand the reason for the rule.

Thanks! I've been enjoying MB. It is an interesting democracy/benevolent dictatorship. I'm still searching for a thread about who started MB and how it all began (probably the "History of MB" thread is also something very obvious that I am overlooking). MB is a valuable resource for people who love music and a fun way to connect with others.

I vote we keep the avatar situation like it is so that after a while only the most elite members will have big avatars and it will let people know who the cool people are and eventually a wedge will form between the community and eventually the ones with big avatars will break off and form a new forum, vote me as their leader and eventually THAT community will split and forced into an elitist civil war, and I will be violently deposed in a bloody coup, but a twist will reveal that it was my BODY DOUBLE who was dragged through the streets and killed. The body double was also my best friend, so, me, a grizzled veteran of many a war will lead a counter revolution with my body double serving as a symbol and martyr.

I will win, but as I look at the charred remains of the forum which once was an Eden, I turn to my trusted lieutenant and say "My God, what have we done?" and he will reply, "We have won, sire." and I will fall to my knees, rip my shirt off and scream into the heavens "BUT AT WHAT COST?!!?!"

Make that happen. If not, then just keep the avatars like they are so us with big avatars will have a bigger e-peener
