my position on the word nigga/****** is that I'm fine with it and it should be said more if it pleases the party saying it. Most of the time it's said in hatred but just like how white people don't care when black people call them whitey that's how I treat the word ******.

It has to be harder on the older black folk that actually lived during the times when the word was much more powerful but if it's used more by us, I think we can take the power out of it.

It's almost the same thing as if someone insults you and then you proceed to insult yourself. It shows the other person that their insult had no affect on you.

just dont say ****** when black people are around and i would guess you wont get hurt right then.

i asked a black friend of mine and they said nigga was allright
not ****** because that is the one with the bad connotations

of course i've heard too that people arent as offended by it...strange i would think.

that's what most black people say also.....and it's because when a black person is called ****** it's usually said with venom in the persons voice and you can hear the hatred behind it.....

The use of the two words and their connotations has been discussed at length on these boards before.
At the time it caused a split of opinion and included, indirectly, the temporary and regrettable banning of a member.
It was decided then, that it was best for all concerned to avoid using the word(s) at all.

While I understand djchameleon's point of view and agree that the word is being reclaimed by his generation, a good thing for the future of the word in my opinion, there are others here that feel strongly about the use of the word in any context.

So, at the risk of being a bore and before the complaints start, can we please avoid using it at all.

You got it RT....I understand where you are coming from and I'll refrain from using it...is it ok for me to have the word in my avatar though? or is that the same as using it as far as you are concerned?
