Promotion Problems
 

I've been seeing more and more organizations basically taking advantage of the forums to get more hits. I would like to take this opportunity to explain that this is NOT free advertising space. If you wish to promote something do it in the promotion forum only.

We do not deserve to be spammed with soul-less, cold, and almost robotic advertisements, conjured up by the devious minds of website owners interested in nothing more than popularity, hits, and probably money.

Take your shameless self promotion, and put it where it belongs, in the promotion forum.

Also as a side note to the forum management, we should probably change the rules a little bit to make it clear that we do not want this advertising outside of the promotion forum. I'd suggest a "read this" forum, or perhaps big bold letters stating "Keep promotions within the promotions forum" in the user agreement that you see when you register.

let the dam mods do there job..maybe they dont mind it...u dont know so ask before u just talk. u say "we" like u have some high postition in this forum just let it go it will be okay. just let rocka deal with it when he gets on sometime

He'll only agree with me, and I see no point in waiting for him to come along when I can do the job myself, and probably save him some trouble at the same time.

If he wants to add anything he can. But it is an issue and it will only get worse if we continue to let it happen.

maybe he doesnt care. he doesnt care enough to come around the forums anymore so who gives a sh*t i mean cmon. just let them do it i use to be like u and try to stop them but its not that big of a deal. they die right away anyway.

Sharky has a point, people ARE taking advantage of space around here for advertising sakes, and its not like he/she (sorry if i'm mistaken) is acting like a Moderator or someone of high rank. It's called doing good. If you plan on bickering like babies who need their diapers changed do it somewhere else. Or else.

Might I add that Sharky is correct on this issue. KFS, I dont know whats up your a$$, but get it out quickly or your time here is counted, consider yourself warned.

Rockafella is busy at the time. Everyone knows that their is a forum open for promotion. I haven't seen the promotion outside of the forum to a point where it needs to get special arrangement, if you think it is, you can leave. The Moderators see the posts around these forums and try to do their best to keep everything in the right spot. There is no need for posts like this in the future. Let Mods/Admins do their thing. Alejo, my reason for bringing this promotion issue to the surface like this is I don't see much moderator reaction to it. It's either disallowed or it's not, and no offense but I don't see a lot of point in waiting for it to become a problem before you deal with it. As if it's not a problem already.

Guys if you want us to leave the running of the forum completely up to you, then that means you'll have to SORT IT. We'll help you out by reporting bad posts, all of us will try our best to reduce your workload, but at the end of the day our help is only worth as much as what you do with that help.

Maybe Rockafella should get some more moderators who are in different timezones...

Theres no way to disallow it. You can't filter who can join by asking them a question like "Do you plan on shamelessly promoting yourself out of place?" and expect people to say "Oh, I'm not allowed to, so I wont". The problem is people DONT care. The only quasi-solution is to give Moderators power to delete members and delete and lock threads, under well-warranted reasons. I agree with you, there is a problem here. Thats what happens to a forum as it gets more popular, it falls under the radar of promoters, who are for honest to god only trying to help themselves. Even though its not to be done here.

I delete all promotions that are in my forums that I have control over. I don't make a big deal about it, because the more I do, the more you will notice it. Check the Indie/Alternative forums out. It's as clean as can be. I try to keep it that way.
