Saba- Care For Me
This album was incredibly emotional as it tells the story of Malik's childhood conflicts from fighting with people in his neighborhood to the tragic loss of his cousin. The instrumentals are amazing jazzy, lofi tracks that really embody the modern Chicago style music that he and Chance the Rapper helped create in recent years. I'm loving the use of synths and strings on this album to just accent the high end instead of overfilling it and making it just overwhelming noise the way a lot of pop music has. Saba's lyricism on this album is also exceptional. His use of literary devices is masterful and his vocal performance is also impressive. The breath control on songs like Logout and Busy/Sirens is bordering on Freddie Gibbs level of skill and yet his voice flows so smoothly that it actually reminds me of some Smino projects. I give this album a 7.5 out of 10 at least.
