Default The Dixie Chicks - Gaslighter

Yeah, they changed their name to The Chicks. But my case and CD have The Dixie Chicks on it. I guess they didn't care enough to pull these off the market.

I LOVE these three. I first saw them with Sheryl Crow in Central Park and thought, "This is the hottest band alive? They suck." But, through those cheap CD buy 2 get 10 free deals, I picked up their two CDs, and they were excellent.

I went to see both Radio City Music Hall shows and have seen them every tour since many times. The only time I was disappointed was the last tour at PNC Center in New Jersey. Natalie didn't want to be there, and that brought the sisters and band down to a crawl. Awful show. But every other time I've seen them, they were magnificent.

Each album they progressed from Wide Open Spaces "Do what you have to, to make us a star" to Fly, which showed a little more production. Home was an excellent old-fashioned country album. I thank God for the disaster they had. Because without the death threats and turning their back on Nashville, The Long Way Home would never had been recorded, and that's probably my favorite album of this century.

Which brings us to Gaslighter. My first 5 listens I thought this album was much weaker than every other Dixie Chicks album. No song sticks with you. I wasn't humming to anything, and the sisters seem to be lost within this heavy bass release. But, it was after about ten listens that the songs grew on me. I still think this is their weakest effort. They're not a hip-hop or soul group and I miss the sisters harmonies (which are there, arranged differently). They went for HIP instead of COOL. The "hits" and "memorable" songs are not really there. The two videos are good songs, not the way the videos were for all their earlier releases.

I'll give them this. This is the weakest Chicks album to date. But, I also LOVE Roger Waters and after waiting years for his last album, this Chicks album is magnificent compared to his absolute crap.
