Link in the image. Amnesia Scanner - AS TRUTH Some bands, albums or songs have that genre-defining vibe. You know you're listening to something that personifies a particular sound and it has somewhat perfected it. Then you have artists who seemingly create an entirely unique style and have no fucking clue what to call it. One of them six+ genre descriptor type moments. Peep.

Link in the image. Lorde - Melodrama Okay so lemme say this first. Why on earth does 'Green Light' open this album? Such a weird choice. Sure, it's the hit single, but there seems to be some serious care taken in the way the album was structured. And that song just doesn't work. It would make more sense as the final track in fact. Anyway, there's just something about this album which has had me hooked since it was released. From punchy choruses, pop hooks to grandiose ballads. Lorde absolutely smashed it. You rarely see an incredibly famous pop singer come out with what feels like an actual album - as opposed to a collection of songs. Let alone one this good. For the longest time this was my absolute nailed on album of the year, and I even hinted at it in this thread. But never underestimate my ability to find a new bae.

Link in the image. Rina Sawayama - RINA When my man Clarence Clarity hit the scene big in 2015 with No Now, he brought something completely unique to the scene. I have spent many hours trying to discover music that had the same kind of vibe. That specific quirkyness and off the wall nature. But I always seemed to come up short. So when I discovered this album I was hoping that the man himself would bless me with more of the same. Instead, he teamed up with Rina to create something a bit different. Futuristic Retro-Pop is about as close a description as I can think of. It sounds as if some of Earth's colonisers in the year 3000 discovered a late 90's/early 00's Pop compilation and tried to re-create the magic - to wondrous effect. I know you guys probably think I have an unhealthy obsession with female pop singers by now. You're probably right. But if you don't think the track below is about as good as music can get you're a damn fool.

Now the list is completed, the album I was wondering if I'd see was Godfather, as you included it in your top 20 on another thread, think it was 'best albums you've heard this year' or something like that.
Maybe Godfather 2 will make next year's thread. Decent read, good work. |

I did actually like that album a lot. One of those I must have forgotten about when making the list. Dunno if it would have made it, but there would be a chance. Will listen again but it's set now

Big ups!
You have an incredible knack for sniffing out the most interesting pop music out there and writing about it. I’ve raved about your work before and I’ll do it again. You’re a terrific resource. I love slowly going through your lists on Spotify. Thanks!
