Default Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance - Belle and Sebastian

First of all, I'm not a Belle and Sebastian fan. I'm pretty indifferent.

No love or hate either way, I just haven't devoted any time to them. I think I've been pretty wrong in doing so to, as Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance is an experimental record and I love seeing how bands grow and evolve.

BUT they don't experiment all that much on this record. I went back and listened to the old ones and they only try a few new things here. Some disco influenced tunes, but that's it.

There are songs here that sound like...typical Belle and Sebastian songs. So yeah, you can say I was disappointed a bit. Even the experimental songs aren't very different-sounding.

The lyrics are still typical Belle and Sebastian, deep at the first listen and hold a deeper and deeper meaning every time you listen to them.

Girls In Peacetime Want To Dance scores 7.3/10

I think this band, unfortunately, has run out of ideas.

Been... cautiously optimistic about this album. I have yet to listen to it, but I'm a huge B&S fan, and I am well aware that the quality of their albums is not what it used to be.

However, with some of their recent albums, Write About Love in particular, I didn't get into them until after many repeat listens.

So maybe we need to give it a chance?

Maybe it's a grower but I doubt it.

I. Hate it. What happened to the effortless dreamy pop sound they crafted? Don't give me the bullshit "they're older now" excuse. That may be the case, but that didn't stop Bob Dylan, or Okkervil River, or Spoon from staying true to their sound. It's a cash grab disguised in an indie pop band you still want to love.

Dylan went through some frightful changes.

No, this record is not a grower. This record is pretty simple. You pretty much get the gist of it the first time around. That's my experience anyways. Music taste is subjective, yada yada yada.

I don't get what you mean. you think this album is straying too much from their "sound" or too little?? it sounds like B&S but its 2015 so who cares. they arent relevant anymore and that's fine. i love em and while i get this is not their best (i do hate some songs on it) but i like hearing new stuff from them. cash grab lol get real that's insulting as hell.

also fuck spoon they were never good to begin with.
