The clones were one of the things that bothered me the most about the new trilogy. I've heard people try to explain away the retcons, but they clearly retconned this. Back in the books clones had some kind of thing going on that disturbed the force, so Jedi could actually sense them. No mention of this was ever made in the new movies. Not to mention if clones were grown too fast they'd grow insane, but in the new movies they were popped out almost at will with no adverse effects. **** you, Lucas.

The early versions that were used in the prequels didn't have that effect on the force.

No, they were clone facilities from the clone wars discovered years after the fact. Maybe they retconned that too with newer books, since I haven't read a new Star Wars book in years, but as far as the Heir to the Empire/Dark Force Rising/Last Command trilogy and everything leading up to the whole Yuuzhan Vong story arc were concerned, it didn't jibe with the new trilogy.

I haven't either, I was just that obsessed back in the day that I still remember a lot of it. No matter how bad some of those books were I actually still get the urge to start reading them again just because it feels weird to be so out of the loop with something that was such a large part of my life.

They were a continuation of the original Rogue Squadron books and I think I still have a few of those. Some of the few good ones. The only Star Wars books that I can even contemplate rereading these days are the Timothy Zahn books, and he's still kind of a hack. His books are readable and his storylines are surprisingly good, but the prose is just so basic and dry.

I feel like re reading the X-wing series. Those books were so good.

Of course the main character also finds out that he's force sensitive for no apparent reason...
