3: Help!
Soundtrack to their second movie, this album is oozing with genius. George gets two greatly underrated songs, my favorite of the two being "I Need You." That's the way to describe the whole album: underrated. Aside from the title track, and the most covered song of all time, "Yesterday," people don't really know much from this album. So, go get a copy, it's well worth the money. 2: Revolver I love every song on this album. It has hits (Like Yellow Submarine and Eleanor Rigby) and some of the most underrated songs of the catalog (Like For No One). This is where they started getting more, *ahem*, creative with the studio techniques. Tomorrow Never Knows and the backwards solo on I'm Only Sleeping are great examples of this. These songs had so much production work that none of them were ever played live by the Beatles as a band. Last edited by Powerstars; 02-14-2013 at 07:10 PM. |

1: Abbey Road
I get a bittersweet vibe everytime I hear this album. It's a band coming apart, but pulling together one last time. This just oozes with epic. From the bass of Come Together, to the cut-off chord of Her Majesty, everything about this album is brilliant. Because stands out to me as a beautiful, underrated piece. Come Together has the best bassline in the entire catalog. Something is the greatest love song of all time. This is a band coming apart, and pulling together at the same time. And that's why I love this album. |

For one, the album is like an average of 5 minutes longer than all of their previous releases and the later Let It Be. For two, George's song is one of the most experimental things the Beatles put on record and I can't imagine the album without it. He took the sitar way beyond it's introduction on Rubber Soul. Nowadays with all the world music we've had since George's bold use of the sitar in this song the way he envisioned it the sitar doesn't sound that revolutionary anymore. Back then it was mind-blowing and deserved all it's praise for being on a pop album so front and center. "Within You Without You" with it's heavy instrumental structure wouldn't work confined to your typical 3 minute pop song back then. Bands like The Beatles were trying to break out of that shell ever since Dylan broke the 3 minute time barrier for a hit single with Like A Rolling Stone. For three, the awkward transition you mention is not a reason for claiming the album is over-rated. It's just a criticism of the sloppy transfer they did when they mastered the CD decades later. I like your thread tho...The Beatles always brings on interesting discussions. Last edited by TboneFrank; 02-18-2013 at 01:57 AM. |

I believe Abby Road belongs on the top as well. But I can understand why people would put Revolver, Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper on top. Hard to put any of those four albums above each other. They are all perfect. |

Tbone, I also believe that in The Beatles dedicated fanbase Abbey Road is underrated. There's a difference between people buy the albums and ones who discuss on forums about them and go into depth. Revolver has always been the fan favourite in the Beatles dedicated fanbase, while it isn't as popular as Abbey Road in the "people who just buy the albums" base and vice versa.
I do agree with you about Within You Without You. So underrated on the Sgt. Pepper's album, it's way better than it's predecessor Love You To, although they are similar in a lot of aspects. Choosing a top Beatles album is an extremely difficult thing to do, mine has always changed. It use to be Please Please Me, then it was Revolver, then Abbey Road and now it's Sgt. Pepper. Although it's in battle with Revolver. I think the only thing that's keeping it on top from Revolver is Within You Without You. |

I like "Within You, Without You," it's just that I feel it goes on too long. I understand they were trying to experiment with longer songs, but that is not one that should've gone one for terribly long. "A Day In The Life," goes on for just as long, and I cannot get enough of it.
