Default Tame Impala :: Lonerism

Be Above It

Great Intro to the album, starts off kind of like dubstep, electronic and then falls into some psychedelic vocals from Kevin Parker( front man and song writer) I love the drumbeat in the song, its like a torrade of sound, if thats a word, it sounds right anyway. The song is drowned in reverb in delay and it echoes down a tunnel of sound. The repetition adds to the song. I enjoyed how abstract it is as an introduction to the album.

Endors Toi

The song starts off with a chilled out wah wah guitar rhythm. The intro to this song is ****in badass. The vocals come in about a minute or more into the song and once again, Kevin's vocals impress me, he really achieves a feeling of the sixties in this album, especially in this song, but also has an incredibly pregressive feel to it. He is really mastering his own style of psych rock. The vocals end pretty quickly in this song and then fade out to a very impressive guitar jam to end the song.

Apocalypse Dreams

One of my favourite songs in the album, I love all of the different progressions of the song. It feels poppy but also incredibly psychedelic. My favourite part of the song is the last half, and Parker's last vocal piece in the song. This is probably my favourite song of the year.

Mind Mischief

This song is different from all the other songs we have heard up to this point in the album, it really reminds me of the beatles. I love the harmonies in it and the guitar riff that weaves through the whole song. I get goosebumps whenever the last verse plays, with the vocal harmonies. " She remembers my name.... " I am also very fond of the bass line and Kevin's beautifl vocal piece towards the end. Another one of my favourites in the album( You'll hear that a lot )

Music To Walk Home By

This song is very airy and feels fresh. I would play this song if I was hanging out clothes in my garden or something, while the sun is out. Not while I am walking home.

Why Won't They Talk To Me

Another one of my favourites if not my favourite on the album. I love everything about this song. I love the lyrics, I love the synth, the chorus. Its incredibly catchy and also one of Tame Impala's darkest songs. Its one of the first sad songs I have heard from them.

Feels Like We Only Go Backwards

This is one of the catchiest songs in the album, and probably going to be one of the singes off the album. I love the chorus of this song and the bassline.

Keep On Lying

Another incredibly catchy song. My favourite part of the song is when Kevin repeats " To the end of this song ". The structure of this song is also interesting, I am not that knowledgeable on song structures but this one feels like it has no real chorus. I also love the interlude in this song that has a guitar riff and people laughing and talking in the backround. It feels really contemporary to me. The jam out they have towards the end of the song is amazing.

Elephant
One of Tame Impala's oldest albums apparently, this song is their first single. It feels different from everything else in the album but is a standout track and the synth guitar jam they have is one of my favourite moments in the whole album.

She Just Won't Believe Me

One of the trippy WTF moments in the album, I was in shock when I heard it first, wasn't expecting it. I love this addition to the album, it reminds me of Syd Barrett. I love the how abrupt the ending is too.

Nothing That Has Happened So Far Has Been Anything We Could Control

For some reason I can only think of walking through a eucalyptos and willow forest whenever I hear this song, and all the smells. Maybe I'm just weird but this song is incredibly vivid for me, I love the intro and outro and once again the synth in this song adds an amazing dimension to it.

Sun's Coming Up

This is one of my favourite songs in the album. I love it. I love Kevin's voice, I love how haunting it is. It is a perfectly appropriate way to end this magnificent album. The chorus part of this give me goosebumps everytime.

So I give this album 9/10

Its a classic for me. I can't believe I am saying this but I prefer it to Innerspeaker, and Innerspeaker basically changed me and basically defined my summer in 2010( One of my favourite albums ) the first time I heard it.

Thought it was alright. Way too much disco though.
I think their take on psychadelic rock is quite shallow to be honest. There is not sufficient depth in there.

The songs are good but there is just something that doesn't click.

I didn't think it was too discoey. I loved their interpretation of psych music. I have never heard anything like it before.

It sounds so much better at night, I really gotta say. I'm still not crazy about it but i wouldn't confess to that it's especially shallow..

I find it gets better with each listen. If you can forget about any distate you might have for disco music or pop, this album should be great. Kevin is doing something really original with this I think.

Review was pretty alright. I personally love the hell outta this album, the first 3 tracks and the last 2 are some of my favs but really, this album doesn't show any weak spots to me.
