I really like this idea. It tempts me, but I know I could never commit to this sort of thing.

Definitely one of my favorite punk bands. Started listening to them because I found out the lead singer called himself H.R. (Human Rights). Good decision on my part! I love bands that like to mix stuff up and experiment with different styles (XTC, Beck, Frank Zappa), and Bad Brains are one of the best examples. it takes a lotta heart to be black men in Washington D.C. in the 70's & 80's alternating on stage between hardcore punk and reggae. but when you've got as much skill as these guys, it works. and you become legends. Rock For Light is a masterpiece. Hearing Saul Williams (one of my favorite hip-hop artists) rap over "Supertouch/****fit" from Black Dots, maybe my favorite punk song, was amazing.

I still marvel at how well they change between playing complex, agile reggae and fast, aggressive punk. they're also terrific songwriters. It also really makes me jealous of people who grew up during this time, because in the early 80's you could see Dead Kennedys one night and Bad Brains another, and that would've been incredible. but one of the best parts about music is its longevity, and Bad Brains are awesome, have been awesome, and will always be awesome. which is why I'm so jealous of my friend who's lived in D.C. his whole life, because he's seen Bad Brains and personally talked to H.R. and describes him as hilarious, laid back, and constantly high as hell. I'd love to see it.

I'm alarmed at how few artists you have that start with A, and many are very popular and I thought were at least owned by most people. Animal Collective? Arcade Fire? Arctic Monkeys?

Big fan of Bad Brains but your friend has HR completely wrong. Dude is a certified quack. Met him in Long Beach years ago and he was the biggest A-Hole you could ever encounter.
