Van Morrison - Inarticulate Speech of the Heart
Van Morrison - Inarticulate Speech of the Heart
This is a vastly underrated Van album. I believe this album and Beautiful Vision are among his very best work. Track 1 opens with an ambient sustained organ sound. The rest of Higher than the World is completely ethereal and dream-like. Connswater is actually a little annoying. It's instrumental (which is fine) but sounds very derivative and resolves at the end of almost every bar. Very predictable. River of Time, very nice and meditative. Other album highlights include Rave On John Donne for me is almost a seance (as is a lot of this album). Cry for home, The Street Only Knew Your Name and part 2 of the title track. As a whole the album is all done in the same sort of mood. Very ambient and as I said meditative and peaceful. Honestly I could probably do without one of the instrumentals (we have 4 here which I think is a little too many). My favourite tracks are Cry for Home and Inarticulate Speech of the Heart Part 2. Definitely a good listen on a beautiful day. This album was recorded in a period where I believe Van was at his best. In his era from 1980ish-1990ish he released some really ambient, soulful, atmospheric and in some ways psychedelic music. I also recommend "A Sense of Wonder" (the song if not the album) "Hymns to the Silence" (the song as well) and "Beautiful Vision" (the album) Dig it! |
